Is there a way to unlock the sandbox mode without playing all the way
through? To be honest, I just want to run around the mall and kill zombies
without the @#$% phone ringing and without having to rescue the @#$% people.

Check out www.gamefaqs.com - they have several walk-thru's for DR.
However having looked at them it doesn't appear there is an easy unlock
and the "Sandbox Mode" you talk about actually has the following
explanation in dead_rising_infinte.txt on the site:

|---------------------------|
# 1.2 Infinite Mode - About #
|---------------------------|

Infinite Mode is the most appealing side to Dead Rising, in this
author's opinion. This is the game that many people have been waiting
for. This is the
game that many people purchased the system for and this is the mode
they were looking for, however, it might not be quite what they were
expecting.

In this gameplay mode your challange is to survive, pure and simple.
It is not a sandbox mode, it is something of a misnomer. Survival Mode
would have been a much better title.

Your health continually degenerates at a rate of one point every 100
seconds. That's a loss of one block every minute and fourty seconds.
Your PP bar is replaced by the current percent remaining of the current
health block, it turns yellow for this mode and slowly reduces, one
tick every second. Any damage you take from attacks that do not reduce
an entire blocks is reflected in this bar.

The goal you are going for, as stated, is to live. With your health
constantly dropping you will be looking for food at all times, but
we'll get into that with the rest of the guide.

A side benefit to Infinite Mode is that many Achievements can be
acquired here. This includes ones only available in this mode such as 5
and 7 Day Survivor as well as such ones as Peacekeeper, Punisher, Car
Jacker and the various other killcount related ones such as Zombie
Genocider.

HTH,
Andy

Thanks.

I'm a bit disappointed. I like the game a little, and really want to love
it, but the basic stucture of the game is annoying and somewhat "un-fun". I
alternate between having fun, and becomming incredibly frustrated.

This game would have been so much better with a few little gameplay tweaks.

Well one way to have more fun is to let the cases expire right away. Then
you can just play through to the 72 hour pickup time while leveling up.

If you have a USB to memory card adaptor you could download one of the
saved games off the Internet with everything unlocked and just use
that...

I agree - this was the game I bought a 360 for and wanted it to be fun
as well, however the structure of the game is annoying me too much. I
recently got Burnout Revenge and *THAT* is how a fun game should be - I
can't put it down.

Like the idea of a USB to Memory Card adaptor... will look into that.
