Post subject: DVE sources?
Archived from groups: rec>games>vectrex (more info?)

Hello there,

I'm new to the vectrex comunity, so please forgive me if this question
has been asked elsewhere! :)

Well, I started to write a Vectrex emulator from scratch in java, and
although it works for some games (minestorm, armor attack, pole
position, ...), there are impressive bugs in others (bedlam, web
wars,)...

So I'm currently stuck, looking for all kind of sources from other
vectrex emulators, in order to look at their implementation and try
to understand what I did wrong (I've got mame/mess, and vecx so
far).
But for some reason, I can't seem to get my hand on the DVE Devlopment
Kit (2.0), since the only link I found is broken... So my question is
: does anywone here have a backup archive by any chance? It would be
most appreciated! :)

Thanks!

Hi James,

Thanks, that would be really really helpful if you could make these
sources available again!
I hope the author will agree :)

Onto another subject : it looks like it may be possible to pack a
standalone preview version of the emulator soon (well it will still
need an installed Java5 JRE to run, and atm only on windows because
of an OpenGL library I use).
Still, packing this would require some extra work, so I'd like to know
first if it would be useful to some people here, and if someone would
be interrested in testing it?

Cheers,
Franck.

Hi!

I inherited the DVE project from Keith Wilkins.
I don´t know at which email you tried to reach me - i didn't get any
mail...

But surely you can give give away the source to DVE to anyone who is
willing to look thru it - but still... expect the code to be ugly.

If anyone has any question regarding the code, or questtions to
emulation - you can reach my under my email account:

(hopefully the spam filter will not kick you out...)

Kind regards everyone...

Chris

Many thanks for the sources, it will come in handy when rewritting the
vectoring code (to fix clean-sweep offsets), and it will hopefully
give me hints for the sound emulation (as I have no clue on how to
start with this part).

Since I got no reply to this, I suppose no one is really interrested
into a new emulator (a java one, to boot). Well, I realise you nearly
all have a real Vectrex, so I guess you don't really need emulators
anyway! Smile

Hey, don't be so quick...

I´d love to test the emulator you write. Even if its only the soruce
code and still integrated in Eclipse - I have an Eclyspe installed on
my machine anyway - so it wouldn´t inconviniate me to much.

If I could peek at the source - I might even be helpfull...

Greetings

Chris

Hi Chris,

Of course I don't mind, the more I get, the happier I am Wink
Ok, I've just sent you an email with a pointer to the sources.

I'll contact you again when I'm back from holiday,
Franck.

Hi!

Just to let you know - i downloaded the sources - and I had a quick
look.
But right now I´m very busy - with work and moving my houshold.

I´ll have a deeper look at the code - soon.

Bye

Chris
