Having caught my first DP legendary in the form of Palkia yesterday,
it's time to move on to the Three ... um ... Things. Anyone else
notice that the legendary trios are becoming more difficult to define
with each new generation?
Anyway, I caught Uxie in the 17,000th Ultra Ball I threw at it this
morning (I desperately need a status move - I've only now realised I
don't have one), though Azelf wiped out my entire team before I could
catch it; but that's not my primary concern at the moment.
I approached Mesprit. I knew that one of the three would run away,
but I thought you got one turn first, to use Mean Look or something.
Seems that's not the case, though, and I was wondering whether anyone
had found a trick to this. Otherwise, I still have my Master Ball, so
I might have to go chasing ...

Thanks for the tip. Doesn't Curse kill it a little too quickly,
though, or am I missing the point?
And is that radar the one you get for completing the Sinnoh Dex?

Found it! And I've had tremendous luck with it too. I don't mind
chasing it now that I know how this works.

I've managed to get it down to minimal HP (thanks to my Garchomp's
Crunch and Dragon Claw) and I've even managed to send it to sleep with
a :L35 Bronzong's Hypnosis! It was holding a Quick Claw, and despite
only around a 5% chance of success, Mesprit fell asleep on the fourth
turn.
Still I can't get it to stay in a Quick Ball, though, so I think I'm
going to have to raise a Mean Looker. As it is, I've found it in the
wild probably a dozen times already to chip away at its health and
send it to sleep. I tried using Uxie's Yawn, too, but it wasn't still
drowsy by the time I found it again.
Anyway, thanks for the advice! It's been a great help.

Catching this one (and the other 2 pixies (I think that is the in-game
name for them) for that matter) was why I started to train up a
Sneasel with False Swipe. It goes with my Gengar with Mean Look and
Hypnosis (and a Bronzong with Hypnosis).
Remember that the poke has to be faster than the Mesprit. I had the
Sneasel at level 49 so I could use a repel in the field that Mesprit
was in and only have to encounter it instead of the level 2 Starly and
Bidoof. Night time is your friend, use Dusk balls and Timer Balls
etc. I think before I started to catch them I had over 30 of the
Timer, Dusk, Ultra, Great and just kept throwing and by the time I was
done I was into the mid teens on most of them, but I had the 3 pixies.

Ghost type with mean look, curse and hypnosis. Go to Jubilife and keep
going up and down, keeping an eye on your pokeradar until it is in the
same area as you. If you do it at night dusk balls are useful.
DO NOT USE YOUR MASTER BALL, trust me you will need it later on.

Ok, probably the wrong term for it. I meant the basic map of Sinnoh

There is another pokemon which does a runner so you may want to stock
up on dusk balls now.

Funnily enough, I just caught it with an Ultra Ball in the end. I had a
Crobat with Mean Look - :L35, but it did the trick. I lucked out, and
Mesprit didn't use Confusion at all, and Crobat survived.
If there's a next time, though, I think I'll just wait until nighttime and
avoid the hassle!

I did wonder whether that would be the case. Seemed like too elaborate a
system just for Mesprit.
Thanks for the heads up!
