Beyond the teaser contained in the May-August preview catalogue from
WOTC, does anyone have any additional information concerning the July
2006 release of the D20 (Modern) superhero supplement entitled
Spectaculars?

>From what I've heard and read it sounds like they really don't get
supers (as in comic book ones) while there is nothing wrong with
creating a game that doesn't adhere to those style elements, I've a
suspician the fact its level/advancement progression based (as in you
level up like classic D&D to get more powerful) will put most of the
fans of supers games off. Maybe not D&D fans, but when their
compeitition is M&M, I don't expect it to do well. (Especially
considering the things I've heard about D20 Future/Ancients etc. not
doing so well)

Level progression has always seemed to me to be a game mechanic very ill
suited for a supers game, but D&D is locked into it, so there you are.
Of course, the GM can just begin everyone at 10th level (or
what-have-you) and leapfrog over the steps of the experience ladder.
But since it is an expansion for D20 Modern, I think one should look
elsewhere for a Golden or Silver Age campaign rules set. However, in
fairness, if one is looking for a street-level or 'realistic' supers
game this combination will be hard to beat, Plus, you get the advantage
of porting over to D&D with your super,

I agree with Silverlion; the genre supplements were skimpy, overpriced,
and unsatisfactory. The only exception was D20 Past which was at least
passable.

Note that M&M doesn't really have level progression as such. You earn
power points as experience and use them to buy stuff. When the GM
decides to raise the Power Level ceiling then you can buy more of the
same stuff.

In 2nd Edition of M&M. In First Edition there was slow progress (not as
slow as MSH, but still.)

However, that's one of the few "improvements" in 2E.
