How do you find a custom painting once you've completed it. Do you
need to sell it first, or do you leave it hanging on the easel? I've
looked in my "catalog" but do not find the painting anywhere.

I guess I'm asking how to hang it on my Sims' wall once I finish
painting it. The window that pops up says that it would be available
in my catalog, but as I said, I can't find it there. When I click on
the easel, I only get an option to sell it, not to hang it.

I'm really not sure what you are asking here. Custom paintings do not
become objects that anyone can buy. That's one reason they are called
"custom". Only the Sim that painted it can use it. You could sell it to
another Sim, but I don't believe it becomes part of their inventory. I
could be wrong, but I know one of my family sims bought a custom
painting at her fathers store and technically even though she bought
it, she didn't own it since I wasn't playing her at the time, I was
playing her father.

It won't turn up in your catalogue - it doesn't become a catalogue object
all your sims can buy, it just remains a custom painting available to that
family. It should be on the easel once it's finished and you can grab it
and put it on the wall somewhere.

Go into build mode, just as you would with any other object, grab it and put
it on the wall.

She should have had the painting show up in her inventory if she bought it.

Same here. Mine always remain on the easel and I have to go into buy or
build mode to place them.

That's the way it works. You go into buy mode, grab the painting off the
easel and hang it on a wall. If you want it in inventory, you have to put
it in inventory. If you want to use it in a different house, invite the
other household's sim over, give them the painting as a gift, and it will
now be in the other sim's inventory.

So, even though the game itself was playing her (she lived on another
lot) she would have it in her inventory? I never looked in it
afterwards assuming that anything the computer did with a Sim became
moot. But then again u know what they say about assumption. Wink When I
start playing again and this happens I'll have to check this out to see
if they do indeed buy the items.

Anything that happens to a non-controllable playable sim on a community lot
is "real". If they buy something in a shop, it's in their inventory. If they
make an enemy, they get their newspaper stolen and rubbish bin knocked over
next time you play. If they make a friend they can get that next promotion,
etc.

Cheers!

Yes, and the fact that playable sims can waltz into a shop and spend their
last dime on whatever is for sale in the shop when you aren't controlling
them is a bit of an irritant. You go back to play them and here comes the
repo man because they have no cash anymore, but 6 vases of daisies and a
Volkswagen. <g> Worse, if they don't have a driveway (and no room to place
one on the lot!) you can't even get rid of the car in their inventory! That
drove me nuts, so I got the mod from MATY that keeps playable sims from
shopping in stores unless you send them there and are controlling them. Let
the shop keepers sell to townies.

And if their wife caught them flirting with the barista, there is hell to
pay when they get home. LOL I've had more "happy" marriages spoiled by
stuff like that than I care to think about.
