Well, that randart sword is pretty darn good, but:
1. Short blades in general are only useful if you intend
to go the stealth/stabbing/short blades route, and dwarves
are ill-equipped to do that what with abysmal Stealth and
Stabbing aptitudes and poor stealth multiplier. Other than
that, even quick blades of slicing are rather
unimpressive; why would you want to subject monsters to a
slow, painful death of a thousand cuts, when you're
supremely suited to killing them in a couple of mighty
blows?
2. You've already invested in two weapons skills (which
is, as a rule of the thumb, one skill too many). Investing
in a third one, and the one you wouldn't get any discount
on from your existing weapon skills, sounds like a
*terribly* bad idea to me. Crawl rewards specialists, not
generalists. Besides, short blades favour Dex; dwarves
favour Str.
So, if I were you, I'd stick to Maces & Flails.
> Should I keep the books with me or dump 'em?
That depends on whether you intend to pick up Spellcasting
later on. Generally, Hill Dwarves don't, at least not the
good ole "mumble this and wave your hands like that"
spellcasting. Evocations are a whole different story,
though, dwarves are very good at it, but books don't have
anything to do with Evocations.
If you *do* decide on Spellcasting, Cantrips can be very
useful for getting the first few levels of magic skills,
and Wizardry has some useful - albeit high-level - utility
spells. In any case, you shouldn't be carrying those books
with you - either stash them or dump them. Crawl doesn't
have a town level, but there are a couple of good levels
for your stash - Ecumenical Temple and Lair:1.
> And which stat should I be raising?
That doesn't matter too much. Both Axes and M & F are
Str-biased, but Dex is always a good investment, too, and
you also might want to get some extra safety cushion
against orange crystal statues by spending your points on
Int.

Dump.

That's what you should be using. Great flails are even
better, but not by much.

Nifty, but not really meant for this character.

Keep it for dealing with the jellies.

Dump.

Dump.

These are not poisoned - dump. Carrying a few poisoned
needles with you is a better idea.

Stash.

Shields are not really worthwhile in b26.

Use-ID.

Carry it with you at all times. It's the ultimate in
dealing with statues.
> G - a wand of draining
> N - a wand of random effects
Use it on fleeing monsters to get some Evocations skill.
Once you have Evocations, you could use acquirement for
staves to get a rod (of destruction, hopefully, or, even
better, of warding).

Stash bread rations.

Stash. (Jeez, we really need Erik here with his course of
lectures on stashing.
> x - 9 scrolls of teleportation
WAY too many.
> y - a scroll of noise
Might be useful for getting your first level of
Spellcasting. If you do not intend to go the Spellcasting
route, dump.

Stash.

Use-ID in the ET.

Nifty jewellery. You can probably dump the second
sustenance, though.

> X - 4 potions of healing

Stash or dump.

Turn off.

Generally, it's a bad idea to invest in more than one
weapons skill. There are some exceptions, but Axes 6, M &
F 9 is definitely not one of them.

I would advise either dumping your shield or, at the very
least, turning this skill off.

And that's really as it should be, even though Okawaru
doesn't mind Spellcasting...
