Does anyone else have trouble navigating the Roman Aquaducts? I'm trying
to do a quest and I've got directions in my journal, which I am
following, but I must be doing something wrong because I'm not finding
what I'm supposed to find. Any tips?

Any tips for playing a sorcerer? I had been doing OK. Got as far as
level seven and am all but two bubbles from level 8, but it's suddenly
got really difficult. I've been trying some of the aqueduct quests and
some instanced dungeons, which up until now, haven't been easy but I've
been getting through them. Now, though I'm getting quests from the
Taskmaster which take me into the nearby caves.

I manage to defeat the first creature or two, but then I get
overwhelmed, they attack me in groups and I have no chance. I seem to
spend more time sitting to regain health and endurance or being killed
than anything else.

What good is sprinting, if most of the creatures still catch you? I've
been trying to run away and hit them with spells from distance, but by
the time I run away and turned round, then been told I've got to wait X
number of seconds to cast a spell, the monster is on top of me and I'm
back to hitting it with my staff, which is OK, if it's one on one, but
hopeless if I'm outnumbered.

Can a sorcerer use any other weapons apart from the staff?

Any easier ways to gain experience and level up?

Anywhere I can find the specific locations for particular quest
creatures? I've got a quest to kill a named river sprite and I've been
searching both banks of the river by Camelot and haven't found it. Also
I've got another one to find a particular named Zombie, I've been
searching the hills and the graveyard without success.

Frustrated as I have been, just lately, I'm still keep playing, so that
must say something Smile

Not sure, I've got a couple of mesmerize spells, I'll have to check
which ones. Which raises the question, is there a list of spells and
what they do anywhere?

It's the taskmaster in Cotswold I've been going to, I've not had a
problem until now, mid to end level 7.

Thanks, I'll keep wandering around and see if I can find them. Maybe
that particular zombie is only around at night?

If you have not yet found it, the map is available (By default) using
'm' on your keyboard (not all zones have maps available, but the
Aqueducts do have one). Use it in the Aqueducts, that will give you a
bit of a guide for getting around. As with many locations, the further
from the main entrance you get the harder the beasts get to kill. I
have found in the Aqueducts that the agro range is not very large, so if
you keep your distance you should be OK.

While I can give you nothing specific about a Sorcerer, I can say that
you should have a charmed pet with you at all times. Having a pet is
literally having a meat-shield. You can 1) use it to hold the attention
(Agro) of your target while you debuff and damage it and 2) You can sic
it on your target and runaway.

> I manage to defeat the first creature or two, but then I get

It sounds to me as though you are taking on more than one beast at a
time. This is something that is not advisable. Very few classes are
capable of taking on more than one at a time, and almost none at low levels.

When using a pet you have two options for initiating the attack. Your
choice depends on how close the beasts are to each other. If they are
too close use option 1 if there is a good bit of distance, use option 2.
1) Cast a debuff or low level damage spell on your target (from the
maximum range possible), this will have it come running to attack you.
You use a debuff or low damage spell to just get their attention and
make it easy for the pet to get it off of you, so it takes the damage
rather than you. Once that happens, back away to maximum range and
start casting your damage spells.
2) If there are no other beasts near your target, then you can simply
tell your pet to attack your target and wait for it to do some damage,
this will keep the monster on your pet rather than you. Keep your
distance and begin nuking.

Sprinting uses up your Endurance (the green bar between red Health and
yellow Power bars). So if your endurance is low, you will not be able
to sprint very far. Additionally, if your health is too low, then your
movement speed is reduced. That factoid also applies to creatures, so
if you get them down on life, they will not move at full speed. I am
presuming that you are running low on health and endurance when you
decide to sprint. Deciding when to run is a VERY acquired skill when
soloing. Learning your capabilities versus your targets is how you make
that decision.

When you are grouped things are very different. Having started as a
Paladin in DAoC, I used to make it my job, that if a battle went sour,
then I was to die and let everyone else escape (Does not apply in RvR
however). I took pride in my skill to keep the beasts' attention on me
so that at the very least my healer (who could resurrect us) would
survive and the more of my party who survived the more I felt good about
my work.

> Can a sorcerer use any other weapons apart from the staff?

At this time, no, it is a Staff only.

> Any easier ways to gain experience and level up?

Kill Tasks and quests in the Catacombs dungeons are my two favorites so
far. As for kill tasks, target a named guard (not just Realm Guard or
Veteran Guard sort of thing. Guard Ramolo or some such) then type
/whisper task (I make a hotkey: /macro Task /whisper task will put one
on your cursor to put on your bar). I use /whisper so that I do not say
it aloud. Another thing I used to do on the RolePlay server was /say
"Guard of the Realm, have you a task for me?". The word task set off
the task request, and the rest fit the role play aspect of the server.

Kill tasks will 1) point you to a good area to hunt for your level, and
2) reward you with a good amount of experience and coin.

After you have killed your target you will need to return to the guard
who gave you the task and right click on them. Later, rinse, and repeat
until level 20.

If for some reason a guard will not give you at task, ask the next named
guard. Some will only give tasks at certain levels.

In the Aqueducts, I found that the tasks complimented the quests
perfectly since the tasks usually took me to the same places as I needed
to go for my quests.

I am betting that you are looking for Sephucoth, the named river sprite,
on the western side of the river, south of the gates to Camelot. He is
a random spawn at the sunken ship there on that shore. You need to kill
other sprites at that ship to get him to spawn.

I am guessing the zombie is Mulgrat. He too is random spawn. He
appears within the grave yard, on the back side of the mausoleum,
towards the river. He spawns with 2 or 3 zombie friends. For him, you
can kill all of the zombies behind the mausoleum or simply check back
from time to time.

Yep, I'm standing literally, right inside the door, the creatures now
seem to be standing a lot closer together, so even if I target one,
others follw.

Doing long corridors. As I said this is right a the entrance. Even

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I was doing OK, right up until mid level
7, then hit a wall.

Frustrating as it is, I'm still having fun and I keep going back for
more, so that must say something about it Smile

Started another toon last night (half-ogre fighter, I think it was), the
difference so far is startling, I rattled through monsters/quests and
was up to level 6 in no time, only killed once and very little resting.
It'll be interesting to see if I have the same difficulty problem when I
hit level 7.

I haven't abandoned my sorcerer totally, I'll definitely be going back
to him regularly, it's nice to have a fighter to work out my
frustrations on a few monsters though Smile

Ah! Found the map now. I know there wasn't one for the instanced

That's the one. Found him now, same trouble though, target just him and
he brings a couple of mates with him. I manage to run away in the
direction of the guards, but then they kill him and I don't get the
loot. He does respawn straight away, but then I just have the same

Alb cats area, the aqueducts are the worst of all three realms IMHO.
They take a bit of getting used to.

>Any tips for playing a sorcerer? I had been doing OK. Got as far as

As been said the Sorcerer is not the best choice for a total newbie,
albeit an awesome class. I think I suggested before you start with
straight nuker as your first caster. Try a fire wizzy to get a handle
on casters and speccing. Or again a simple melee class if you want to
get close up and personal. DAoC is a complex game to get to grips
with, don't make it harder by choosing a complex class as your first
character.

Oh, remember when that giant rat came up to you last week and offered
you gold Smile). You should have taken it Wink.

I've been looking for you lately with the Heretic I created on Ector
but haven't seen you this week. I'll keep looking in during the late
evenings. Post your new character name here if you roll another.

My name is Wicci but I will only be popping onto Albion Ector before
the RvR gets going on Gareth to see if I can help you along.

New character is called Throt, half-ogre armsman. Progressing a lot
faster and finding it much easier with him. I even found the two people
in the aquaducts that I couldn't find with the sorcerer, so I may go
back with him now I know where to look.

Thanks, I'll look out for you.

What level do you have to be before you choose a profession? Do you have
to at all? Any recommendations, I think my armsman can either be a
weapon or an armour crafter?

I've got the MMO bug now I've got a taste for it Smile Picket up CoH at
the weekend as it was cheap and CoV is out soon. Finding it fun if a
little shallow compared to DAOC, it seems easier to get invited to join
a group, probably because I'm seeing more people about. So dividing my
time between CoH and DAOC.

Aye, really best to keep it simple at the start. You are embarking on
a quite an undertaking as a complete newbie to MMORPGs, so best to
stick to the straight forward classes until you get to grips with all
the other things you need to learn. Very few, if any, folks stick to
the first few characters they roll anyway. Even if you are a seasoned
MMORPG player you still need to get the feel for a new game so initial
toons are usually rerolled once you have more experience in that game
world.

It's about 10pm, so I'll log into Ector now and see if you are on. If
not I'll check evenings around 10pm as that is when you said you
usually play.

Leave that for now. Get a feel for crafting through basic crafting.
Don't specialise yet until you learn more about the game.

CoH is a really fun game but, as you say, nowhere near as deep as
DAoC. I still play from time to time. I have a US CoH account though
and the one downside of CoH US is that the maturity level of the
community is not high. Far lower than WoW even in my opinion. That has
to be expected though given the super hero thing and US kids. One of
the things I hate when I reactivate my US CoH account is the constant
group invite spamming, especially when I'm on four tough mobs and some
daft kid keeps spamming the invite.

I take it that the UK version has specific UK servers, and not just
the same ones as the US? If so I'll probably buy CoV/CoH UK combined
box that will no doubt be out and the community will probably be more
mature than on the US servers.

I would have to agree here. The only thing you really need to worry
about here is what style to use and when. Get in close, possibly using
a crossbow to bring them to you, and smack 'em down. <grins>

That is the thing about a good game, one forgets the passage of real
time...I love it, my wife does not.

/who all "Atra Manus" (The "all" queries every zone and the quotation
marks will limit it to the members of that guild)
/who all Taelesin
/who all Tael (Queries every name with that letter combination some
where in the name, so Kaytael would generate a hit also)

As for friends, sadly the friend must be online at the time, so you
cannot add a friend without them being online. But, the syntax is
/friends Taelesin. To view your friends list it is /friends

I have not been in game much this past week, so forgive me if you have
been looking. I have been /who all Throt etc. every time I am on though.

Cheers, will write them down and try them next time.

Try Asela too, that's my sorcerer. I'm alternating between the two at
the moment.

Getting the hang of this now Smile

Couldn't see you or anyone from Atra Manus online last night, but I did
manage to find Bill, or rather he found me and he spent 5 minutes or so
chatting to me, probably thinking I was ignoring him, because I couldn't
work out how to reply to him Smile Sorted it in the end and he ran me
through the basics of sorcery.

Basic stuff that I hadn't been able to pick up on, mainly from not
having a manual yet. I'd been spreading my magic out between body, mind
and matter, rather than specialising. So with his help, I respecced and
can now get a pet.

He also introduced me to the wonders of the obelisks. I'd noticed them
before in the aqueducts, but didn't know what they were for, so I'd been
spending ages running backwards and forwards all the way between
Camelot/Crypt/aqueducts.

Even with these two simple things, it makes the game so much less
frustrating.

each of us and our 2 kids, so its a family game for us. if you ever make a
toon on hib lance look for Lopy and tell her that Arow sent you and she'll
help you out, she's one of the GM's in our guild Black Dragon Seekers
