I am using FS2002 on some flights ATC informs me I am entering Class D
airspace, it then asks me to inform them when I am leaving class D airspace,
how do I find out when I am leaving it?

I think the GPS unit shows airspace boundaries. You can also look at the map
window, but that's a lot more awkward.

Hi Malcolm,

You know this from you flightplanning! Smile
As a pilot it is your responsibility to know when you enter a controlled
area and what rules apply there. In simulation you can omit this without
loosing your license (or at least paying a fine), but this is cheating.
You will have to take a look at the maps *before* you begin your fligth.
Additionally the GPS will give you information about airspace boarders
(see the 'MSG' blinking - when you push the button you get a message
saying something like 'airspace near and ahead' or 'inside airspace'
when you are in any kind of locally controlled area).

Regards

Matthias

Fly below 1500 feet in most countries, and you never enter controlled air
space except in the vicinity of an airfield!
That's what I call quilling about!

Hi Malcolm,
Class D airspace is the controlled airspace around smaller airports that
have full-time or part-time control towers, but do not have radar services.
In this airspace the control tower provides aircraft sequencing and traffic
advisories. Class D vertical airspace dimensions usually extend from ground
level up to around 2500 feet AGL. The lateral dimensions for Class D vary
from airport to airport, and may have extensions for instrument approaches,
but generally extend to a radius of 5 nautical miles from the control tower.
A sectional chart will depict Class D airspace by using a dashed blue circle
around the airport. This blue circle should also be seen on your GPS
display. In real life a good way to tell if you are clear of the airspace is
to find a landmark on a map that is just outside of the airspace, and when
you fly over it you can call the tower and let them know that you are clear
of their Class D. In the sim, it really doesn't matter when you call them,
but you can wait until it looks like you are at least 5 nm from the airport,
and then make the call. Or you can watch your GPS moving map and call them
when your aircraft is outside of the blue circle. I hope this helps...

Yeah, right. Only you often got minimum flight heights of ~2000ft AGL
for cruise flight due to noise reduction rules and, as you wrote
correctly, controlled zones at airports as well as military zones
usually beginn at GND. There is space for GA in real life, but by far
not as much as in the sim Wink.

Mattias

There's plenty of space for GA in the United States, both in real life and in
the sim.
