Posted to the Sega group, because I'm an elitist snob. Smile Also because
this post will become Sega-related in due course...

I'm headed for Texas for a day or so, and the town I'll be in has a mall
that has a store called 'Console Game Exchange,' which I've never heard
of. They don't seem to have any kind of web presence beyond third-party
directory listings, and they don't appear to be located anywhere but the
southeast US.

Anybody have anything to say about this particular chain, good or bad? I
ask because I have in my posession an extra copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga
that the regular places won't touch just because it happens to be a Saturn
game. I won't use eBay any more, and the Electronics Boutique/Gamestop
juggernaut has lost my business for life, so I'm trying to do my part to
keep independent stores in business. If this is the kind of place where
retro rarities can be traded in, then I need to make extra room in my
luggage. Smile I appreciate any thoughts on the place that are shared.

There are other places to sell these things... I for example would
certainly give you twenty American dollars for that game. But since you
could probably find a buyer pretty easily for five times that, that
wouldn't be sensible for you to do.

But I don't want cash, I want more games. Exchanging the thing for cash
adds an extra step. Why should the tomato sauce go in a can before it gets
poured into my coarsely-ground sirloin?

Wow, that's a metaphor out of nowhere. Smile But seriously, I have a bucket
of duplicate retro gaming stuff thanks to a big local lot purchase, and I
don't need an extra copy of Saga, or an extra Virtual Boy, or.. Ooh, a
copy of Dragon Force with disc art I don't already have. Okay, now I'm no
longer hunting for information and I'm just taunting people, so I should
stop now. Smile

Because you can get 5 times more games with that extra step. Exchanging
games is the worst thing you could ever do. You get REAMED.
Don't be a lazy slob. Ebay your stuff and get its true (for the most
part) market value. Then buy the games you want from the stores, or ebay
if need be.

Not going to use eBay again, unless they make good on the money they owe
me and go after the seller who defrauded me. They let me down as a
customer and I have no problem letting people know how I feel about it, or
why I won't use them.

But to your point? In general, store credit for games is higher than cash
exchange for games, although not usually for higher ticket items. I might
get $5 for copy of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 that I don't want if I sold it
to an individual, whereas the game store might give me anywhere between $7
to $15 depending on who's running the register. I agree with the sentiment
in principle, but in practice it's not always true. If I were only parting
with ridiculously rare and valuable items, it would be different.

-KKC, who should just post a list and let you guys fight over this stuff. Smile

If you're going to be anywhere near Dallas, it might be worth your time
to make a trip to the Hillsboro 'FX Video Game Exchange'. Also, I think
the one in Waco actually has a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga for $200.
Either way, I think they'll give about $150 in store credit for the game
complete. I can dig up a phone number if that interests you.

If this is the one I am thinking about, they are overpriced, but their
selection of stuff is pretty wide...and they have some interesting
titles behind the glass counters.

Again, if it's the one I am thinking of, the guy will actually let you

You didn't miss much; I went to two Best Buys and neither had any of the
games on clearance. And they hadn't sold out before I got there, they
just didn't have any of them to start with.

I thought that the reason not to get disc-based games from Blockbuster was
because of the stupid security sticker they put over the whole label? I
understand the need to protect their rental property, but I'm not going to
put extra weight and stress on DVD drives that are already prone to random
failures. If Blockbuster were run by people who cared, they would work
with the game publishers to create discs that had the magnesium strip
integrated into the spindle hole already, or had something ferrous or
otherwise encoded into the dye on the label. Using tape and glue is
unnecessarily stone age for that purpose.

-KKC, rambling for no reason.

So, you know we were talking about BEST BUY, not BLOCKBUSTER, then?

Never mind, had a senior moment there. Was stuck on the Game Crazy subject
from five messages ago and never left the video store mentally. Who wants
to pick my gaming punishment? Last time I slipped like this, my pennance
was to play the NES version of Space Harrier. Smile

Well, they stopped doing this because they had so many compaints about people
getting DVD's stuck in their players, or the discs just not playing right due
to, like yo usaid, unbalanced discs. Now they are just putting a small ring
sticker around the hole in the disc, it's not too bad at all.

Agreed. Hell, look at the DVD community, they *all* now offer their discs for
purchase with or without that metal sensormatic strip thingy in it.

Woot for my trolling, I actually work for CGX, and I can tell you we generally take ANYTHING video game related as a trade in. Our store credit is first rate (9 times out of 10 we give double Gamestop's store credit) and our cash payout for games is so-so. Anyone with questions can contact the store via 972-255-4263. You can use the number 972-386-4263 if that number doesn't get an answer. Happy game hunting and ask for Kirby when you call! (thats me)

We carry a lot of games (ZOMG MY STORE HAS A LUNAR COPY FOR SEGA CD FOR 99.95) so give it a shot if you live anywhere near the Dallas area.
