Thanks Arthur, I hope I don't have any issues with it, but with
computers, who knows? I will of course keep you informed of
developments.

The Piper Cub is the safest airplane in the world; it can just barely
kill you.

Hmm! A number of people have suggested this Iain and I am a little
confused. Please let me explain. My current rig has FS9, FSX, Video
editing, photo editing, Works, e-mail, Internet connection and many
other applications. It is 120GB and currently has 42 gigs used and 69
gigs free. I do 'Spring Clean' once a month Smile I thought 150GB would
be ample???

Also.........

..........The site that will be building my rig only offers the WD Raptor
SATA 16MB Cache (10000rpm) up to 150MB, that's why I chose it; on the
advice of a friend who said get the fastest harddrive possible. The site
does offer other harddrives (7200rpm) up to 10000MB though.

If I was to get another HD and have, say, the 150 Raptor and one of the
others, again say, a 300MB (7200rpm) how would you configure it?

That's a coincidence! I initially went for the SoundBlaster Audigy SE
sound card, but the advice on the builders site is........Unless you are
a serious gamer, a musician, music/film editor, a serious music lover or
someone who already has surround sound speakers, you will be fine with
onboard sound. As I am slightly deaf, due to my Military Service, and
making video's with bagpipes as the background music, Smile I decide to
go with onboard sound; please come back to me if you disagree.

I think I went a little over the top with the Case (£99). If you are
interested this is the builders site
http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/index.php

Thanks so much for your input Iain, much appreciated.

The difference between flight attendants and jet engines, is that the
engine usually quits whining when it gets to the gate!

That's exactly what I would do as well, make that 10,000 rpm Raptor the main
system drive , and add a second drive, 7200 rpm sata 300, to put the
programs and data on.

I think Brett has answered that better than I could, Mike

I was thinking more from an overall performance point of view, Mike. With
onboard sound the CPU (processor) has more to do in creating the sound
whereas with a sound card it can throw most of it over to the card and get
on with other more important computing jobs (if you see what I mean!). I
know it is said that onboard sound has improved a great deal in this respect
but I still prefer to separate it.

Your very welcome!

And fwiw, the newer Soundblaster X-Fi I believe, uses even less resources
than the older Audigy series card.
I have the X-Fi Extreme music, and like it very much. ( I think it is
basically considered the Extreme Gamer as well ).
Both are good though.

If you do get a Creative card though, tell your builder, if you can, you
only want the basic drivers, not to install all that other bloatware that
comes with them.

Yes! We have the occasional blizzard, none so far this year though.
