Post subject: Combine class counts 08/23/2006

Was just over at EQPlayers, and queried players of each of the classes.
These counts should be accurate +- 10, as I just took the number of pages
of results and multiplied that times 20 results per page - 10 to estimate
the last page result count. Also, I did the math in my head and rather
quickly, so this tally is absolutely for entertainment purposes only. Razz

Cleric - 9430
Druid - 8790
Enchanter - 7770
Magician - 7270
Monk - 5750
Necromancer - 8650
Paladin - 5490
Ranger - 5430
Rogue - 5110
Shadow Knight - 6450
Shaman - 7910

That's some 99460 characters created (+- some 140).

Wow. That's a lot of warriors.

Theyre progression servers. That means they open with the classic set and
each expansion only opens when they are triggered by the players. So no
beastlords/berserkers till the expansion they were added in gets opened.

I figure that on the progression servers, haste, slow, CC and mana regen
spells are far more important than normal servers. For that matter, most
buffs/debuffs are - kind of the way it *should* be.

Doesn't seem to match what I've seen, which is far more SK than
warriors, although admittedly the Paladin thing does fall in line as
less popular than either..

I've also seen far fewer druids than shaman, but it could simply be thta
the druids are all off soloing somewhere.

Other than this, the numbers are more or less in line with my observations.

For one thing, there's no KEI, or other long duration mana regen buff;
this means if you want mana regen, its going to have to be reapplied
every half hour or so; you either group an enchanter or you bring along
an enchanter bot, or you drink a lot of clarity potions.

KEI and Temp and their ilk were a massive blow to the desirability of
clerics and enchanters; on the progression servers, they simply don't exist.

Holy cow! Good call. Filtering out just the level 1's made a significant
difference. Hard to believe that half of all the characters shown on
EQPlayers are level 1.

I've since found out, however, that this database is not completely
accurate. There is evidently an option the player can set to prevent
their data from being included in the EQPlayers rankings and, possibly,
query results. Aside from that, I have seen claims of other various
inaccuracies that may or may not be directly related to that as well.

Aye, there is. I opted out of that feature on the day it appeared,
for all of my alts. There's a button in "options" to opt out/in.

yeah, for about 4 months max. hence why I remain surprised.
Maybe they dont have long term plans of playing there.
