A package appeared in my mailbox
this week. When I saw John's name
on it, I thought I'd hit the 3D Imager
jackpot, folks!
Surprised again when I opened the
package to find Color Clash!
DELIVERY
The game shipped in a nicely sized
shipping box filled with plenty
of foam peanuts. The box arrived
safely. A perfect delivery!
GAME BOX
A sturdy, professional quality box with
stunningly vivid graphics that brings back
the aura of the Vectrex years ('82 to '84).
This is definitely the very best GCE-style
box yet. Much better than the Debris
design!
OVERLAY
A really nice overlay that improves upon
the Debris EE overlays. The white backing
is done very nicely (no ugly handpainted
blotches here!). Quality is on par with
Alex's/Vectorzoa's overlays.
CARTRIDGE LABEL AND MANUAL
Nice, colorful, high quality, well written
printed matter!
GAME PLAY
A tetris-styled puzzler with some neat
features. Players match shapes on their
ship with shapes on falling objects, then
blast them. The inclusion of falling bonus
items is a nice touch!
GRAPHICS
Raster. You guys know I'm sort of against
raster graphics on the Vectrex. Well, I'll
try to judge fairly anyway : ) The graphics are
nicely done. They suit the game type/style.
SOUND FX
VecVox enhanced audio with an opening
musical score reminiscent of 80's console
games.
BONUSES
Includes a tiny bonus game, Xudoku.
COMMENTS
Both of Martijn's/Revival's games have
utilized raster graphics, which have become
sort of synonymous with his company.
It will be nice to see some vector graphics
in the future.
I enjoy Color Clash a trifle more than
Debris. Why is that? Well, I think because
Color Clash is more successful as a puzzle
game than Debris is as a space shooter. I
wouldn't call either of these games "fast-paced",
but this actually works out fine with Color Clash.
Debris, on the other hand, seems very labored,
and I expect much more action from a space
shooter than I do from a puzzle game. Makes
one question come to mind...Do raster graphics
move slower than vector graphics? ; )
SCORE
Box, Overlay, Manual, etc = 10
Game Play = 7.5
Graphics = 7
Sound FX = 7
Overall = 8
