Installing Close Combat Cross of Iron. At the end of the original
install, it asked me if I wanted to install .NET2 or a Java virtual
machine. It said the .NET2 was only need if I wanted to use a skin
changer, so to hell with that. It said the Java virtual machine was
needed if I wanted to use "MMCCIII" but had no explanation of what
that might be or why I would want it.

Then after the initial install, another installer started for
something called the Close Combat Command Center. I let that proceed
as well.

Neither "MMCCIII" nor Close Combat Command Center appear in the manual
table of contents or index. Anyone know what these things are?

There's additional documentation included (and more on the forum)
regarding MMCCIII - that's the massively multiplayer online campaign.
The Command Center is the location setup at CSO to provide a nexus for
all the scenarios/mods and campaigns. That's what's currently having
some issues. Check here:

OK, thanks, Erik. I guess I'll just putter around with with the basic
install for a few days learnign the system, then maybe all that stuff
will be back up.

Do any of those mods add different troop nationalities such as US, UK,
or Commonwealth?

What are the "plugins" in those FTP folders that Eddy pointed out to
me?

MMCCIII is just the server-based multiplayer side of CC:COI. It's
described in the "MMCCIII.pdf" file that should have been installed with
the game.

"Command Center" is the rather grand title for the Main Menu. "Command
Center.pdf" expends seven pages describing how you can click the various
different icons to do things.

There are *fourteen* separate manuals for CC:COI, including good ol'
readme.doc. They're all squirrelled away down in %MatrixRoot%/Close
Combat/Close Combat III/Manuals.

Ah, thanks, Gifty. I bought the CD/manual edition rather than the
download, so Silly Me thought those things might be covered in the
manual. I'll go have a look at those PDFs now...
