Archived from groups: alt>games>civ3 (more info?)

Not long got this extension to Civ 4. When playing and click on the Show
Tiles icon or use Cntrl +T music and background sound continues, but,
screen goes black, no image, then get error that "Civ 4 has encountered an
error and must close". This happened once yesterday then recovered after
re-launching it, but, today every re-launch encounters the same error when
Reveal Tiles is clicked. Anyone know anything about this? Running on XP
Pro SP2.

Also, when I first installed Warlords about a month ago I ran the updater
and installed the latest patch. The result was it was impossible to
launch as the installation seemed to have deleted a file (can't remember
what it was now, but, it wouldn't launch because of it and had to
reinstall it without the patch). Anyone had similar experiences?

Got it fixed thanks. It was Direct X, I thought I had the latest, but,
although the latest is 9.0c which I have evidently MS releases updates
with the same number which means when you run Windows Update it doesn't
detect it as an older version so doesn't offer a newer version...typical
of MS. Updating to the latest version allowed me to install 2.13, it was
a dll that was missing relating to Direct X. Also, now the grid is back
and doesn't crash the graphics when turned on and off, presumably the grid
is generated by Direct X too. Glad it was something as simple as that and
unnecessary to upgrade Graphics card or even roll back Graphics driver and
update it.

Two hours wasted due mainly to MS not putting proper numbers on their
updates. Still, hopefully the game will go smoother now.
