Civ3 Space Race Victory

I played a scenario where I played against one other civilization, and
victory was 'Space Race'... I ended up being forced to obliterate the other
civ... and completed all parts of the space ship. Now when I click on the
little 'S' in the lower right corner, nothing comes up... before I finished
the ship, a screen would pop up showing the steadily growing status of the
space ship, but once it was complete.... Nothing! Do I have to go through
the stupid 'Future Tech' Civ Advance before I launch the ship?

The ship automatically launches when you complete it, and then, you
win the game. Unless, of course, you've done so via other means, such
as conquest (destroying all other civs), in which case, you've already
won, and cannot win again -- and therefore, you don't see the
spaceship victory screen, no be able to access it.
