| Does anyone know what the icon means that looks like a black rook chess
icon?
I know all the other symbols but have no idea what this one means. Im
talking about
the icon that is next to the religion icon and the happy\health icons.
Anyone know?

I think it just means that the number following it is the city defense
bonus. I.e. it doesn't mean anything.

Well, I bought the game and read the manual, but didn't see any
information about the rook symbol. So I think you are being a little
unkind to Jetter.

Indeed. I bought the game. I read the manual. I have been wondering
since the first time I played what that symbol was.

The manual is a joke.
You're spending money on inflation. Try to find that in the manual! >> Stay informed about: Civ 4 City icon |

Didn't say it wasn't there, just that I didn't find it when I idly
wondered about the symbol.

Yep; only noticed that for the first time today when looking at the
Financial Adviser screen - something I rarely do.

No, but it wasn't very hard to find, Advanced Rules -> Cities. So pointing
Jetter to the manual (or advising him to buy the game if he hadn't) seemed
like a fair thing to do, and not "a little unkind".
Btw, how can it be unkind to say such things, because you couldn't find it
when you looked?

No; just saying I thought Jetter was unfairly criticised for not finding
something that was not IMO particularly obvious in a badly laid out
manual.
