Not being very good at computers, I have a question to ask. I'd like to be
able to change city names I don't like, that is to say, the names of cities
in other civilizations. I'd also like to escape getting the same name
suggestions when founding cities myself, once I have nixed a certain name
and chosen another name. I know there must be a way to set up this, but how
do I but do that in practice?

In Civ 4,
To alter name of your own city:
Enter city screen, click on city name (shown in the buff-coloured strip
at top centre). Dialog box pops up, inviting you to change city name;
type in new name and exit.
To alter name of another civ's city:
Enter Worldbuilder, select Edit City mode, click on city tab below the
city, dialog box pops up with city name in top box. Replace with city
name of your choice. Close box, exit Worldbuilder, name will be changed
to that requested.
I have no idea how to change list of suggested city names. I recall it
could be done in Civ 2, so it may be possible in Civ 4 as well.
Hope this helps,
Regards
David

Thank you! I knew about how to change one's own city names, but I hadn't
thought of using the Worldbuilder to change the names of others. Still, I
wish the game wouldn't keep suggesting names you have rejected once.

Thank you from me as well! Even so, I wish Firaxis had made it a simple
option for the player to edit the names without this somewhat convoluted
process. And someone should tell them that i isn't at all necessary to
include apostrophes in Russian names, such as "Chelyabin'sk", and what not.
Most Slavists don't really do that.

Let me add that I also wish the game wouldn't keep suggesting the same name
over and over and over once you've rejected it. I recall that in Civ II,
once you had dismissed a name it never turned up again. The should have
stuck with that.

I'll second that. I used to be fond of chaning "Moscow" to the more
correct "Moskva", but that's difficult in Civ 4. >> Stay informed about: Changing City Names |
