Fortunately, I'm familiar with this emergency lever.
When involved with an emergency, you push the lever and it gives you
your last rites in 24 different languages (except English). This
takes just enough time for the plane to slam into the ground, or
water, or whatever....

It gives the engine(s) just enough power to take you to the scene of the
crash.

Emergency power is a high power setting that cannot be maintained
without damaging the engine. Thus, it is reserved for emergencies
where the potential damage to the engine is justified by the absolute
need for the greatest possible power.

Obviously, a very versatile, multi-functional lever. Why do one thing
when it can do three? : )

Sorry I confused you.....the : ) was supposed to indicate I was joking
by implying the lever can do what I said, what CL said and what you
said (multi-functional).

PC,
This lever is provided as a backup to the main Fuel Control Unit(i.e.
Throttle). While the PT6 is a *very* reliable powerplant, F.C.U.
failures are one of the most common problem areas. This lever provides
a manual backup to control engine power, bypassing all of the F.C.U.'s
automatic functions.
Happy Flying!

MX,
You are absolutely incorrect in this case. The Emergency Power lever in
the Caravan is merely a mechanical backup, to be used in case of some
functional failure in the Fuel Control Unit. Please do not spread false
information about subjects which you apparently know nothing about.
Happy Flying!

Have you had a sense of humour by-pass, Mxsmanic? Is that what the 'manic'
part of your handle indicates - manic depressive?
