Like owning games, many collectors seek it out for collectibility. Working
cat boxes always seem to hit four digits....when I read your post I was
expecting $2500+ to own up to a "holy &%$#@!" status hehe. $1100ish is not
a surprising hammer price for it working and the provided peripherals. If
another one was listed it would be less....we just haven't seen a working
one listed in some time.

Funny I have been watching this type of item for at least 12 years on ebay
and transactions between collectors (the ones I hear about anyway). I have
NEVER seen a CAT box hit 4 digits. Any of these 4 digit sales still linkable
on ebay? Wasn't the last one on ebay less that 1000$? I know you will make
the "but this one works argument" but in my experience most CAT boxes still
work it's just they are sold untested because the people who end up with
them have no clue how to test it. A more realistic value for this item would
be in the $300-$500 range imo.

Not to me. I'd rather buy a game or 3.
Probably not Atari in that instance, either. Wink

Does it strictly have value as a collector's item, or is it of
practical value as test equipment?

Perhaps he made a goof and thought that it was a PAT9000?

You must have missed my NOS CAT box auctions back in 2000 - 2001. I had
a number of them - the highest sold for around $1275 as I check my
records...

I still have a prototype CAT box here...never quite decided what to do
with it...

There are less expensive ways of duplicating the same capabilities, so I'll vote "collector's item". I've never felt the need to
own one. The Cinematronics Exorcisor is a different story.

Thats funny since Ebay just celebrated their 10 year anniversary last year
lol.......probably didn't see its first CatBox for a couple years
thereafter.

My auction memory is around $800 - $1200.........but thats just my brain...

I remember, in the old days, you could get the transaction history
practically all the way back until eBay really picked up. They didn't
age off the completed transaction database. That was pretty awesome.

App Req: eBay Completed Database for Arcade Games
(Of course, such an app would be sure to violate eBay's ToS.)

What about a PSE Programmable Test Fixture for b/w pcbs?
I've got one and cannot find any info on it. You use a good pcb to compare
the bad one I assume?

As long as we're talking about CAT boxes, I just got a bunch of
manuals today. One of them was Area 51, printed 2/96. Believe it or
not this manual references the CAT box in the glossary! I wonder if
they made a CAT box adapter for area 51 Smile
