This has to be the hardest fps I've ever played. Apart from my retarded
team mates who pop up in front of me and get killed, the game is awesome.

Usually I play through a game to unlock the hardest difficulty then play it
again, like GOW, but this you can go through Veteran straight away. I guess
that's why I think it's so hard, not having played through it before to know
how it all goes.

I know this game is a bit old now but it's one of those one's I've missed.
Anyone done it all on Veteran yet? I've just borrowed this but I've heard
COD3 is harder still and a much better game. If it is I'll be getting it,
what do you guys think?

Veteran is much easier if you start by playing through the lower levels.
Your skill level builds, you know what to expect and where to go and as
challenging as Veteran is, you feel much less intimidated and much better
prepared for the intensity.

I haven't gotten to COD3 on Veteran yet. In fact, I'm currently playing it
on Normal. I think I enjoyed COD2 more but COD3 is an enjoyable game. If
COD2 is a 10, I'd give COD3 probably about a 7. Well worth playing but I'm
not sure it is quite as satisfying as I found COD2.

I beat it on Veteran and altho it was tough, it wasn't impossible.
Like you mentioned, I had previously beat it on an easier difficulty
so I think that's why it feels so hard for you.

As for COD3, I just recently played it and I don't feel it stacks up
to COD2. It wasn't developed by Infinity Ward and it shows. It's much
more buggy and glitchy.

I think CoD3 on veteran is at least 10x as hard as CoD2 on veteran. I
always felt like I was making progress in CoD2, even though it was
hard. CoD3 is just hair-pulling luck on some levels. We're talking
harder than Ninja Gaiden, which I did finish.

CoD2 is the only game that I have 1000/1000 Achievements, but
finishing certain sections on veteran dificulty was a total
nightmare. (Especially when your task is to affix the explosives to
the moving tank... arrrrgh.) I agree with you, it's best to run
through it on a lower level so you have an idea what's coming.

IAWTP.
COD2 was so much better than COD3 that I didn't even bother playing it on
veteran and I gave up playing it online in a week.

As far as the story goes, COD2 is better. Multiplayer COD3 rocks way better
than 2, more so because you can have more weapons and use tanks and
vehicles, be a medic, or a specialist of some type, and have more online
players. COD2 having only a total of 8 players sucked. Difficulty, COD3 is
tougher on veteran, as I got through COD2 with little trouble. There were
certain scenes in 3 that were just frustrating. The graphics in 3 were way
better than 2 also. But, I did like COD2 better overall (not MP though),
despite my comments about 3, because I thought the story was much better and
made the game more engaging.

Yeah I probably should have gone through on easy first, but I just borrowed
it from a friend. I did find GOW easier on insane after playing through
hardcore first though. On that note, I played through easy on multiplayer
really quickly to get the Dom achievements. If I had of played GOW on easy
first up I don't think I would have enjoyed it nearly as much.

Cool, I do need a decent multiplayer shooter, don't like GOW multiplayer and
that's the only fps multiplayer I have on the 360

Graphics don't worry me as much as gameplay, just wish you could do the same
stuff as the people on your team in COD2. Like take cover against walls
etc.. ah well

Thanks Everyone Smile

I also have found, at least at first, COD2 is far more immersive than COD3.
Not only are you tasked, making what you do more important to what is going
on but the Sarge or other group leader depending upon what particular
campaign in which you are playing at the moment is constantly calling your
character's name, shouting specific orders to you.

While that may make it somewhat less realistic than COD3, it seems to really
bring you into the game because so much of the focus seems to be on your
playable character in single player mode. It's there in COD3 as well but
it's more subtle. It seemed to take me longer to get immersed in COD3.
Also, the first Sarge in the American Campaign in COD3 is really inept so
you find yourself pretty much on your own. Again, while that might add to
the realism as such you do sometimes run into that on the battlefield, it
took away from or otherwise delayed the overall immersion into the game.

I don't know yet about Veteran on COD3 but regardless of level, there were
some missions in COD2 that were absolutely brutal. The part of the Russian
Campaign in the town square that you metioned, "The Silo" in one of the
American Campaigns and clearing those houses just to get to the Silo and
that last battle in the game where you have to fight your way off the beach
was as rough as you would have imagined Normandy beach, especially on
Veteran. Also, crawling around those trenches having to take out the morter
crews and fending off the German counterattack really gave the feeling of
being in the middle of the action and on Veteran, while tough was for me
some of the most fun in the game.

There are some similar things in COD3 but I haven't found any part of the
game that gives anywhere near that sort of intensity. Perhaps when I get to
Veteran I'll see it but thus far, I haven't seen it.
