Do you have Catacombs?

If so the first Catacombs ID drops Aurulite which can be used to buy
some really nice newbie armour and weapons. If not then grouping and
grinding the low level dungeons and do the low level battlegrounds. As
a Pally you should be grouping. Grouping will level you faster and get
you more cash and nice drops. Tasks in Gothwaite are also nice if you
have SI. Also check the fan web sites for hunting spots, IGN and the
likes.

My memories of being an Alb are a nearly forgotten embarrassment
though, so maybe somebody else can offer more precise and better
advice .

Basically crafting is expensive, and you'll never be able to keep up with
your highest level character as you level up. The trick is to get a level
50, then start crafting. For albion most recon a necro - but personally I
find that a boring as hell toon to play.
I'm guessing that you have gone armour crafting and at the same time going
weapon crafting (or vice versa). Since you cannot get your secondary crafts
up to max level, most start a second character etc. to do all the trades.
Now the main advantage of crafting, is that you can spellcraft the bonuses
that you want into the armour, damn another trade to learn, and then there
is "procs" (spells that fire off your weapons and armour like direct fire
damage etc.); oh another craft alchemy! Oh and your need a tailor for
amourcrafting as well
Now don't get too put off, although I have not hit the dizzy hights of
legenary crafter, I can make good gear for up to around level 30 toons (and
it didn't take silly amounts of time or money), and someday I may spend the
time getting the rest.
Fortunately, there is a solution, consignment merchants; pop into houseing
and have a search; load of stuff - often at a good price. I normally drop
decent gear from TOA onto mine for around 30-50 gold.
Now as for getting money and leveling, instant dungeons, and mates - join a
good guild. Failing that just spam the newbie guild with Pally looking for
group, someone will take pity on you

What's the /played time to get a Necro to 50 nowadays? When I did it,
around the time TOA came out, the quickest time on the necro forums was
around 5 days /played. I took 9, and a friend of mine took 7, but we both
were distracted exploring a bit when Atlantis came out.

With Catacombs, and the 50% instance bonus in task dungeons, I'd expect that
it would go a lot faster now.

BTW, there is a downside to playing a Necro. It is *too* fast. After the
Necro, we found other characters were leveling so slow, they were not fun.
("What's wrong? We've been playing two hours and we haven't leveled!"). It
took a year to get over that.
