Check out the Eon Series by Greg Bear. Although it doesn't call it
such...Braintaping and Ghostcomps are common.

See the movie Brainstorm. I think it predates the Cyberpunk book. >> Stay informed about: Braintaping |

Yes, there was a novel where an activated clone with an out-of-date
recording of the original's memories is faced with the job of tracking
down his original's murderer. >> Stay informed about: Braintaping |

And thus spoke Steven Jones...

It kind of appears in "Old Man's War", where old people get a new body -
their mind is transfered to it, but there's no real "taping". But
there's a mainstream movie: The 6th Day. There they make copies of the
memories and implane them into clones. >> Stay informed about: Braintaping |

There's the excellent late 1960's British TV show 'Joe 90'
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_90) , from the same team which created
classics like 'Thunderbirds' and 'Captain Scarlet' which postulated
braintaping exactly, including (as it's central premise) the ability to
temprarily transfer the recorded patterns of any subject (Russian fighter
pilot, deep sea divers, spies etc. to the mind of a nine year old boy - the
perfect cover for any agent!
If you're in the UK you can watch many episodes online free at www.itv.com,
failing that there's at least one episode ('Most Special Astronaut')
available on YouTube. Oh - and it has the best theme music *ever*, too!
What I wouldn't give to see an official 'GURPS: Worlds of Gerry Anderson'
sourcebook...

Disadvantages:
Delusion (minor): You think you sometimes can see wires attached to the
limbs of people.
Delusion (severe): We are all just puppets, controlled by giant humaniod
beings above us.
