Not that I'm experiencing them in my game or anything, but I remember there
being posts here a loooong time ago about some of the sims in Maxis hoods
having borked genetics. I don't play Veronaville (which was apparently rife
with missing skintone data), but I do dabble in Pleasantview and
Strangetown. Other than missing relationship markers in Strangetown do you
guys know if anyone in either of those two hoods has borked genetics (most
notably the trouble with missing skintones so that a sim has trouble giving
birth springs to mind from memory)?

Now that I'm feeling a bit more comfortable with SimPE I thought I'd go in
and fix any missing skintone data, if there is any, for sims in those two
hoods. No need for a complete list if there is a list already at MATY or
elsewhere.

Cheers!

Yes and yes - both neighbourhoods have problems with Strangetown having more
than Pleasantview. There is a thread somewhere at MATY which discusses it
and, I think, covers what needs fixing. I can't help you with the thread -
as you know I don't play Maxis hoods so I've never had a reason to do it
myself.

Best wishes

There are serious problems with the Smith household genetics - and I think
some with the Grunt household too. It's been a while since I fixed the
hood - I will check and see if I have a saved copy of my fixed version if
you're interested.

I really hate doing searches at MATY... Seems to bring up weird results.
What would be the best place to look? Peasantry?

I also have a 'fixed' Pleasant View - somewhere.

I went through and fixed all the ones who were identified as being borked in
Strangetown. I'll go through and take a look at all the playables in
Pleasantview as well. It wasn't hard to fix them. I just needed to know more
or less what to do and now everyone has the correct genetics. Plus they
fixed the crashing during birth with a patch but since the wrong skintones
were still being passed on, I figured I might as well go through and fix it.
Would explain why Loki and Circe's daughter in one version of the hood I had
ended up with the darkest skintone when neither Circe nor Loki had that
skintone. According to the MATY post that's the skintone colour the game
falls back on when there is missing skintone information.

Cheers!

Good for you. It's always best to do your own because then you can decide
exactly how you want to fix the genetics.

Here's a little table for you (if you don't have it already)

· Brown eyes 32dee745-b6ce-419f-9e86-ae93802d2682
· Green eyes 51c4a750-c9f4-4cfe-801c-898efc360cb7
· Light blue eyes e43f33602-3a08-4755-8b83-a0d37a6c424b
· Dark Blue Eyes 2d6839c5-0b7c-48a1-9c55-4bd9cc873b0f
· Grey Eyes 0758508c-7111-40f9-b33b-706464626ac9
· Alien eyes 12d4f3e1-fdbe-4fe7-ace3-46dd9ff52b51

· Light skin 00000001-0000-0000-0000-000000000000
· Tan skin 00000002-0000-0000-0000-000000000000
· Medium skin 00000003-0000-0000-0000-000000000000
· Dark skin 00000004-0000-0000-0000-000000000000
· Alien skin 6baf064a-85ad-4e37-8d81-a987e9f8da46

· Black hair 00000001-0000-0000-0000-000000000000
· Brown hair 00000002-0000-0000-0000-000000000000
· Blond hair 00000003-0000-0000-0000-000000000000
· Red hair 00000004-0000-0000-0000-000000000000
· Grey hair 00000005-0000-0000-0000-000000000000

Although I will admit quite a bit of it is well known the list of eyes can
be very helpful.

The problem only affects Maxis pre-made hoods and not all sims in them. The
townies are fine and so are some of the playable residents. But for some of
them, they had missing genetic information, and while the problem of the
game crashing of a sim giving birth to a child by a sim with missing genetic
information (whether the father or the mother had missing info) has been
fixed, the game still doesn't know what genes to pass on and will fall back
on the Maxis darkest skintone. Which can be weird if the two sims you bred
were both the lightest skintone.

Cheers!

Thanks for the information. That would start a good story though. Who's the
father?
I have a big imagination and now I want to go see what I can start up. haha

In case anyone was wondering if Pleasantview was OK when it comes to
genetics, that would appear to be the case. I went through the DNA of all
the playables and at least in the areas I know how to access their genetics
seemed to be OK. There was no genetic information missing that I could see.
Which would indicate that probably the gender reversed Pleasantview is OK,
too.

Cheers!

Apart from the fact that many of them possess genetics that are in no way
related to those of their children or parents and Brandi Broke's third child
doesn't have to be a clone if you fix Skip (not resurrect - just fix).
