This is ED we're talking about. So my money's on about July. I am a
professional cynic though.

The big question for me is, will it use Starforce? Starforce means no buy. >> Stay informed about: Black Shark |

Personally, I have no problem with SF. Some people legitimately
don't like that it loads deep drivers onto your computer to do its
work. I don't mind, others do. On the other hand, I am not into ..
ahem .. backing up all my optical disk based software either. Go
figure. >> Stay informed about: Black Shark |

That has nothing to do with it. I don't like having drivers on my
computer that have the potential to slow down my DVD drive from DMA mode
to PIO mode and then having to screw around to fix it. Just try playing
a DVD movie to see what the effects of that are. Some cdrw/dvd drives
can't even run Starforce protected games and then it's up to the
consumer to figure out why. Gee, ain't PC gaming fun? >> Stay informed about: Black Shark |

Confirmed? Oh, well, it's their loss. I'm not alone in refusing to buy
any more SF protected games, it's quite wide spread by now too. >> Stay informed about: Black Shark |

like those listed on the starforce forums. cheers for the link though- I
have set starforce to not run on startup! >> Stay informed about: Black Shark |

I'm not into "backing up my CD's" either.
I am into backing up my computer on DVDs.
I am into storing my online-purchased MSFS 2004 addon's on DVDs.
My wife is into storing her geneology research, document scans, pictures,
slideshows, etc. on DVDs.
Essentially I bought my DVD writer as a more capable tool then my CD-R/RW,
which I bought as a perfectly legitimate tool for perfectly legitimate
purposes. I object to having its abilities diminished without warning or
opportunity to prevent it. I also object to the assumption that because I
object, I must be a pirate.
Hence, I won't waste my time or money with Black Shark, nor Flaming Cliff's.
I have Brothers In Arms: Earned In Blood that I received as a gift and won't
install because it has Starforce. If I become convinced that I can
completely and permanently remove Starforce after playing the game, then I
might install it, play it, and remove it when I'm done (it's a FPS).
Otherwise, no-go.

Just checked my puter for the dreaded Starforce drivers and sure
enough they are there. Now I have an explanation for my DVD drive
getting slow...
Question if one gets a no CD crack for the offending games can you
then simply remove the starforce drivers?

Neither have I, at least I don't think so. I haven't really bought
many new games - but where would it say that SF was included? >> Stay informed about: Black Shark |
