It's not that I didn't like it. Actually, it's a darned enjoyable
game--what little there is of it. I'm not particularly good at
shooters, yet I burned through the entire game in 15-20 hours or so. A
real expert would probably make it all the way through in a weekend, no
problem. There's just not a whole lot of game in this game. Just as I
felt I was really getting good at it, the final credits rolled. I was
genuinely shocked. "That was IT?" I yelled at the TV. "Come on!"
And if that's not bad enough, what genius decided to create a good hot
shooter game, without multiplayer capability? I guess the crystal meth
epidemic has made its way into the offices of EA--it's hard to believe
that the people who made this decision were in their right minds.
They created about one-third of a really good game. Sheesh. >> Stay informed about: Black: Blech! |

i know what you mean.. i finished this one in just over 8hrs and i
don't really like to play FPS on a console.. and just like you, just
when i was really warming up and enjoying it the damn thing is over..
no doubt we'll have to wait for 'Black 2' which will probably be out
by Xmas. Still it was a good game, no replayable valve though. And if
there is a 'Black 2' i'd like to be able to run/jump in the game, some
multiplayer wouldn't hurt either, maybe driveable vehicles/helicopters
would be cool too..

I believe that was one of it's selling points. There are
those of us that don't play muliplayer and I know I tend to
avoid this type of game because most of the effort seems to
have gone into multiplayer aspect.
Black was supposed to redress the balance and provide a
great single player experience, it seems they've failed.
I'd been looking forward to black but won't be buying after
the reviews I've read here.

I think online multiplayer is way, way over rated for the simple reason
that every single multiplayer FPS game is exactly the same. There
hasn't been a new mode invented since "Oddball". Heck, even games like
Twisted Metal and Crimson Skies are stuck with the same multiplayer
modes that have been around since Doom.
What's the point of having an online mode that's the same as Halo 2,
and Doom and Quake and...

That would explain why I've already (!) started seeing it in the "Pre-owned"

do you really want to be playing a shooter for longer than 15-20 hours?, I
dont think an FPS has ever lasted me that long. Not putting a multiplayer
option does pretty much render this game to the bargain bin within 2 months

I'm with the crowd that still enjoys good SINGLE PLAYER FPS. DOOM started
it, and I still love playing against code, monsters etc... (so to speak) as
opposed to people. I'll have a party if i want my friends over.
So hey, pick up Black in the bargain bin for 25$, play it on hard. I'm
enjoying the game alot!

In my opinion there are two glaring problems with the game.
1) The movement is clunky and not at all smooth. There's no option for
adjusting the sensitivity so you get plastered when you need to swing
around to face an enemy coming from the side or behind because the
motion is slow.
2) When the enemies shoot you, you can take a lot of damage. But it can
take 15 to 20 shots to kill an enemy at close to medium range. And
unless you have the sniper rifle, forget killing anyone from any
distance. I'm watching the bullets hit the enemy in the head from the
Uzi, but it takes 10 to 20 head shots before they go down.
I recommend KillZone over Black if you're looking for a good first
person shooter. >> Stay informed about: Black: Blech! |

I'll take a single player FPS with advanced AI over multi player any day

Any game with only 15-20 hours of gameplay in it deserves to
be a rental only game IMO. When I buy a game I'll play it
all day on the day I buy it. I do not expect to finish a
game on the day I buy it!
