OK, I've played both Stalker and Bioshock about a quarter of the way
through, and whereas it's very difficult to find a good time to load
Stalker back up, it's the opposite with Bioshock. It's so damned
inviting, it's hard not to race through it.
Paul and I have long agreed that Mafia had pretty much the best
atmosphere of any PC game, but this may take the prize - every tiny
aspect of the design and sound for the game is crafted to make the
experience as immersive as possible.
I can't go into detail on further gameplay elements, but so far the
upgrading skills idea seems as complete and satisfying as Deus Ex was -
to the point where I can see huge replay potential by focusing on
different skills (I played Deus Ex as an invisible, super fast ghost,
and then as a massive, unstoppable killing machine, for instance).
It looks really, really beautiful on my pc, and while I'm sure it'll
need the effects dialling down for slower rigs, it's a lot more
friendly than Stalker and it's weather effects.
It's a pity Strider left the group - I'd love to find out if he's
playing it the amoral 'kill everything that moves' way he played HL, or
whether the moral and emotional challenges you get given make him hold
back. It's a given for me - I couldn't even kill the scientists in HL,
let alone Barney - I'll come out of Bioshock with ethics intact, even
at the expense of a harder route to take.
So - PC games, eh? There ARE other ones than World of Warcraft after
all, I find. Wonder if there are any others around worth botheri.....
oh, the Orange pack is due next month...

Gee, I think the proper forum for discussing Bioshock is
comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.action. I myself bought this game, and just
started to play. I still have half of FEAR to finish, and I still have
the FEAR Expansion Pack. So... I was really looking forward to
HL2:Ep2. I like HL2 best. It is a pity that Bioshock came first... my
hands are tied at the moment, and for the next few months (3 mo ? 4
mo ?). So I will have to postpone buying HL2:Ep2. >> Stay informed about: Bioshock: Brilliance and Taken Opportunities |

I haven't yet tried Stalker, just because I need to actually make it
through university and installing it may make that a risky business

I tried the demo and sadly the atmosphere, I thought, wasn't that great.
That was probably due to the graphics glitch that I was having that
caused some of the textures to be rendered as plain green or orange
blocks. Sadly my card is not on the supported list, so actually playing
Bioshock properly is going to be expensive! (I can't believe my X800XT
is obselete already!)

I presume you did it as a killing machine on Easy then! I found Deus Ex
to be way too hard to play on the "blast everything in sight" setting,
so I was mostly a hacker, but handy with a wrench to the back of the
heard if needs must

Thanks for giving me the free trips to the past . Indeed, I said
that... and I have nothing to say now to acquit myself. I guess I
bought the game because I saw it on the pre-sale at a discount, and
thought: "What the heck, I can afford, I just could buy it now at a
discount and see what was all that hype about".

Uhm.. again, I have nothing to tell to acquit myself. Guilty as

Gee, you think so? Is that why in July you visited aghl and started a
thread called 'I am not looking forward to upcoming BioShock'?
http://tinyurl.com/ytmmpb
Didn't you enjoy the subsequent discussion? Imagine for 10 seconds
trying to have that same discussion on csipga, and you'll see why we
post in here.

I've never played any game on 'easy' mode, Civ! I use 'unstoppable' in
the modern sense of 'stoppable'. From what I can remember, it just made
me harder to kill and able to use the heavy weaponry.
Plus, just because you're too young to have developed 1337 fps skills,
you shouldn't think we all have the same problems with games you do

lol! Not even drinking games?
Yeah, I played it on hard IIRC (I needed to make it last) and I remember
being seen was tantamount to being dead so the enhancements in the
unstoppability dept. must have been pretty good

Awww, bless.
It's an example of the sort of hip language young dudes are using these
