Installing new aircraft - Can someone please point me to a document that has simple, for adding new aircraft to FS9. So far all I've been able to do is download the zip file from the various sites that offer aircraft. After that, nothing seems..

Installing add-on aircraft - I seem to remember reading somewhere that when 3rd. party aircraft into FS9, it is OK to leave any effects and gauge files which come with them inside the aircraft folder in question, rather than move the files to the main FS9 Effects or Gauges..

ProFlight98 and older sims - Fellow flyers: Someone just gave me a factory sealed copy of ProFlight 98. Is this in any way with FS 2004? For that matter, can any older programs designed for older OS's (I have XP Pro) be run or added on to FS 2004 scenery, etc)? ..

Beware of installing older aircraft in FSX, as they can
screw up the portion of FS that reports your
geographic coordinates to FSUIPC 4.
MyFSGoogleEarth and ActveSky were both getting
crazy results, but as soon as I removed all the
FS9 and earlier aircraft from the Airplanes directory
and restarted FSX, tne problem dissappeared.

In short, some older aircraft will interfere will
cause nonsense data to be sent to FSUIPC.
I am trying to identify which FS9 and eariler
aircraft are causing the problem, becuase some
of them will work without causing the problem.

Through trial and error I have found that the
AI Aircraft for Ultimate Traffic is what causes
the part of the sytsem that reports geographic
position to go haywire.

If you are using anything, such as MYFSGoogle
Earth or Activeky, that relays on geopgrahic
posistion data through FSUIPC, you cannot
bring your Ultimate Traffic Aircraft into FSX.

I think there is a basic problem regarding gauges. MS have changed the
format and no longer use .gau files, they have switched to .xml format.

Here is what I did to stop getting confused between default AC and 3rd party
AC
Edit the FSX.cfg thus (make a backup first of course)
[Main]

User Objects=Airplane, Helicopter

SimObjectPaths.0=SimObjects\Airplanes

SimObjectPaths.1=SimObjects\Rotorcraft

SimObjectPaths.2=SimObjects\GroundVehicles

SimObjectPaths.3=SimObjects\Boats

SimObjectPaths.4=SimObjects\Animals

SimObjectPaths.5=SimObjects\Misc

SimObjectPaths.6=SimObjects\AI Aircraft ------------------------------------
Added by me SimObjectPaths.7=SimObjects\Aircraft_3rd
Party --------------------------- Added by me

Then go into the FSX directory DRIVE:\FSX\SimObjects and create two new
directories of
AI Aircraft and Aircraft 3rd Party. Of course you don't need and may not
want the AI entry.
Now you can place any added AC within the Aircraft 3rd Party folder as per
FS9 and keep them well away from FSX AC. The gauges associated with each AC
can then be either placed within the panel folder of the respective AC or
make a gauges folder within Aircraft 3rd Party.
I have tried Dave Maltby's BAC 1-11's, his Tridents adn Rick Pipers
Chipmunks - they all work well in FSX. Also there is a great JU-52 by a
german chap which also works well.

Regards

Dagnabit! The editing in the above didn't work out too well, looked OK in
preview. Hopefully you can make it out.

You can still load in .gau files into the Guages folder.
The only caveat is that you cannot use guages from
FS 98 and earlier. Anything FS2000 or late will
work.

So FSX will find the gauges for FS9 aircraft if the
added "gauges" folder is in the added "Aircraft"
folder? ( I've already created the "Aircraft" and
"AI Aircraft" folders )

If this is the case, that will be a big help in keeping
the FSX.cfg from becoming overly BLOATED with entries
for many of the imported gauges, since once you tell it to "run"
the "non-trusted" gauge and tell it to "trust" it, FSX adds lines
in the cfg file for each seperate instance of a new "trusted" gauge.

I started putting the gauges in the associated aircrafts
panel folder but it would be much cleaner to have them in
a common gauges folder, seperate from the FSX default gauges
folder. Here's and example of the same gauge in two different
panel folders, from the FSX.cfg file:

K:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator
X\SimObjects\Aircraft\Lockheed L049A
Constellation\panel\F16.GAU.qwcnzrlwuzhwkbirwneiaiuiiltuacrtboeeiouw=2
K:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator
X\SimObjects\Aircraft\Lockheed
L-188\panel.test\F16.GAU.qwcnzrlwuzhwkbirwneiaiuiiltuacrtboeeiouw=2

As you can see thats alot of text, and if you have the same gauge used
in several
aircraft with a copy in every panel folder, it won't be long before
that cfg file
gets really LARGE!

It's late tonight so I've not checked your method out but
I certainly will tomorrow.

There is NO SUCH FILE as FSX.cfg. I searched
for it using the Windows file search utility, and it
comes back with no results.

Got it? Good

Shirley, you jest...

You aren't serious are you?

fsx.CFG, as it actually shows up, but the case is most
likely irrelevant, is indeed present. And if you're not
joking, then look in your...
"Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Date\Microsoft\FSX"

There you shall find fsx.CFG, Cameras.CFG,dll.xml, a couple
of other files and three folders.

For those that want to "tweak", I suggest creating a shortcut
directly to fsx.CFG and place it on your desktop.

Is this a problem when using AI aircraft, e.g., Aardvark, or just with
flyable ones?

Maybe some of those BZZZTs could have been omitted, but I don't think
Charles means ill, probably just frustrated -- as who of us has not
been? It's astonishing that fsx.cfg is still a hidden file, given that
FSX out of the box MUST be tweaked to get reasonable performance...
