One of my toons is a master weaponsmith & axesmith. As a result I have
access to several axe recipes (through trainers) that other specialty
blacksmith don't, and vice-versa. They have access to stuff I don't.
Now another of my toons is approaching the lvl in alchemy where he can
choose a specialty. I believe the choices are master of potions, master of
elixirs and master of transmutation. I'm probably going with MOT because
from what I've read the requirements are easier for me. (I hate instances
and I've read the other two branches require a drop from a dungeon boss.) Is
specializing in a branch of alchemy like specializing in a branch of
blacksmithing? Do masters of one branch have access (through trainers) to
recipes the other branches don't? And as a MoT would I have a easier path to
some transmutes or will I have to grind rep till I'm bored silly like
everyone else has to?
What are the benefits of being a MoT?
P.S-and about discoveries: do I have a chance to discover a potion or elixir
recipe when Im transmuting and do I have a chance to discover a transmute
recipe when Im making potions or elixirs? >> Stay informed about: Benefits of being master transmuter? |

I don't believe there are specialty specific recipes for alchemy like
what blacksmithing and tailoring have. Your specialty I believe only
makes it so when you make a potion, elixir, or transmute, you have a
chance at making 2 of that item from the mats for 1. So for master of
transmute, say you were making a primal might, you have a chance of
making 2 primal mights from the same mats. This is advantageous
because you can either use the second one or sell it. If you are
doing the transmute for someone else, you can agree up front to the
price, and a separate price in case your specialty procs and you make
2. Or you can just say nothing to the other person and give them the
one they paid for, leaving you with the extra. Primal might
transmutes are popular so you can always be doing them as soon as your
cooldown is up. >> Stay informed about: Benefits of being master transmuter? |

I don't think you get any more benefits than those listed below, but I'm
not an high-level alchie.
> What are the benefits of being a MoT?
There's a chance to get *more* back on a transmute. I.e. Transmute of
primal might, you have a chance to get mote than one primal might. (I
think I'va heard of someone getting up to 3 items on transmutation).
Potion masters can get back multiple potions, and elixir masters can get
multiple elixirs (and flasks also I think). I've heard/seen of up to 5
potions/elixirs on one creation.

I think, atm you discover transmutes when transmuting, elixirs while
creating elixirs, etc. But the mechanism behind this is always changing
a bit and as Blizzard hasn't stated anything, it's all a bit of guesswork.
You might want to check the official professions forums also.

All it does is you get the chance of getting extra's (up to 5) on a
transmute. One guy in my guild has gotten up to 5 Primal Mights on a
single transmute, but I've never gotten more than 3 of anything
transmuted myself.
There is a question to ask yourself: how often do you make stuff?
Transmutation is a once a day thing. Sure when it procs you get LOTS
of extra stuff/money, but you can make an unlimited number of potions
per day. You might have better luck going that route. YMMV.
As to discoveries, I think it's like Urs said, in that transmutations
can trigger transmute discoveries, elixirs for elixirs, and potions
for potions. I only do transmutes regularly and the only discovery
I've made so far is Transmute: Primal Mana to Primal Fire (which is
pretty nice).

Zebby got her first discovery of Transmute: Primal Mana to Fire last night.
How cool is that. Maybe I'll make one tonight.
nothing discovered so far making Potions. Zebby usually only makes lower level potion though.
Two discoveries making "flask of the Titans" at the shatt alchemy lab. cool.
Zebby is a specialist in neither or any. Just a level 375 alchemist.

I'd say once per every 4 or 5 transmutes I'll get extras.
