I *really* want to believe this...but without any word of it on the
official site, and a few odd things in the above email...I don't know
man. I mean, I guess they could just be sending these emails out to
those who pre-ordered...but as long as this entire thing took, you'd
imagine that they'd want to try get as many people to buy it
immediately, ASAP.

We'll see, I guess. Maybe they'll have it on their site tomorrow, and
the email sent out to all those on the mailing list as well...

Wow, Ben and I both ran into the same thing: Catching them in the
middle of an update. It wasn't on their site when we were chatting on
AIM about this, but then I refreshed, he cleared his cache and sure
enough...

"Shipment information

First, we'd like to thank everyone who placed an order with us between
December 31 - May 21. Your support and patience are certainly
appreciated. We're very excited to announce that we have now begun to
ship the game to pre-order customers, and will handle future orders as
quickly and efficiently as we possibly can.

As the pre-orders are concerned, there are two official release dates:

* If you placed your order between December 31, 2005 and March 22,
2006, your order was shipped on the afternoon of May 22, 2006 and
should arrive within 3 - 6 business days. Please check your e-mail for
further details, as a message has been sent to you regarding your
order.

* If you placed your order after May 22, 2006, your order will be
shipped at the end of May. You will be sent a confirmation e-mail once
your order has been shipped successfully.

Our need for having two seperate mailing dates for pre-orders is due to
high demand. All orders are carefully hand-prepared for maximum quality
assurance. If you should have any questions or comments about your
order, you are more than welcome to contact us by e-mail.

Let the Sega Genesis - Megadrive live again!"

Man, end of May if you order it now. I guess it's a slow process all
the way until the end. Wink Ah well, will order it at some point
here...using my dad's Paypal account. They see my name and I'm almost
certain my copy will end up "lost" in the mail. Wink

I emailed Brandon Cobb two weeks ago and he let me in on the 'late May'
release date. I didn't want to spill the beans at the time as I wasn't
sure if that information was ment to be made public, lest some
complication arose and the release date had to be pushed back. Glad
they were able to get it out.

However, I do think SFT should have paid attention to their core
audience. We were grumbling about where Beggar Prince was on usenet
and on forums and not a single reply from them in these venues until I
asked them directly. There can't be that many Genesis/MD fans who
still collect -- it's a pretty small audience and it's a pretty big
risk to be pissing them off. The lack of simple text updates on their
site made their outfit look shady.

Yeah, agreed. I would not have said anything just because I wouldn't want
to be lynched if they missed the date...again. Wink

I agree. Granted, they could not have replied to every post across every
forum, usenet group or anything like that, but had the just of simply had
some updates...even minor stuff like "Fixed this one glitch that caused a
really odd graphic to show up 10% of the time", it'd of at least shown they
were doing something...anything.

I was told late May via e-mail about a month ago. I was thinking of
dropping them another e-mail when my shipping confirmation e-mail arrived.
I've been pretty skeptical about this release, but I'm overjoyed that it has
shipped already. I put in my pre-order months ago, so this is truly great
news.

It's really great that they were able to make their release date. I
can't wait to get my hands on this and try it out. Once I do I'll try my
best to post some impressions.

Woo-hoo! Smile

Yeah, anyone who didn't pre-order, theirs will ship at the end of May.
With that said, I'll just order it up around the 1st...

yay! a Megadrive game made over 10 years ago, then released 10 years
ago, originally called 'Xin Qi Gai Wang Zi' (New Beggar Prince)
finally comes out on Genesis in English, titled 'Beggar Prince'.

I'm excited!

Thank God you're here to tell us these things. I think there was still
some guy, over in Oklahoma I think, that didn't know about this.

> I'm excited!

I'm excited that you didn't manage to mention something about the game
being playable on the TV....like Web TV is viewable on the TV, thus
making it "relevant" to crosspost your info there too.

It'll stop when you stop...

Heh heh Bel I was about to post the link there, but ya beat me to it.
Yeah, I agree that the box art is lacking in quality... not very
appealing IMO.

Even just going with a damn screenshot of the game on the cover would
have been better, imo. Wink

Beggar Prince is in da house! Mine just showed up in my mailbox today.
I won't get a chance to play it though until later tonight or tomarrow on
account of today being my wedding anniversary. Smile I'll try to post some
gameplay impressions after I get a chance to sit down with it.

However the packaging is extremely well done. It has the old-school
traditional black checkered pattern that first-gen Genesis games had. It
also has both the Genesis and Mega Drive logos on it too which is a nice
touch since it will work on either a PAL or NTSC system. It's all housed in
a typical Genesis plastic case, complete with the tag for hanging it in the
store. The manual is full color and glossy, as is the sticker on the
cartridge. So far I am completely blown away by the packaging, it's much
more professional then I was expecting. Unless someone beats me to it as
well, I'll try to snap some photos later with the digital camera.

I'm so happy to have this in hand, it makes the last few months well
worth the wait.

Yeah, I'm guessing it had some hardships in the mail or something.
Though, sometimes, developers will intentionally make stuff look like
that(the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade manual for the Mac comes to
mind).
