Finally got an email from Super Fighter's mailing list saying the game
is shipping.
" Hello!
Thank-you for your interest in Beggar Prince, the new role-playing
adventure game for the Sega Genesis - Megadrive.
The game is now shipping to customers, and yes, we are still taking new
orders!
Many of you on this list have already placed an order with us - - - and
for that, we thank you!
However, for those of you who have not yet ordered, or would like to
tell your friends about the game, we have only produced 600 copies of
Beggar Prince and at this time, have sold just over 500 of them."
Honestly I'm surprised they managed to assess their market pretty
accurately. 600 units total and they've already done 500 of them. I
would guess the remainder of them will be gone by next year. >> Stay informed about: Beggar Prince run only 600 copies total, <100 left |

Over *500* people have the cart....I've heard, like, 3 things about it
so far. Either these 500 people are really quiet about the game, or
I've managed to miss virtually everything they've been saying.

Well, before the Sega stuff started going for quite a bit more on ebay,
a typical Genesis unit was around $15 to $20. Definitely worth you
time.

There's been an on-going thread at Sega-16.com, with an interview and
review up the game just posted recently. Seems like a decent enough
game if you like RPGs, though I'm sure most are buying the game due to
the unique nature of the release and not due to its overwhelming
quality. I admit I'd tempted to do so for the same. :p

May have to take a look. Sega-16 is a solid site.

Yeah, I knew it'd end up being like that...but whatever helps the
sales, and makes them consider doing it again for another game, I'm all
for. Now, the extreme wait and the entire shitty buying process, I'm
not for.

sega-16 is indeed a very nice site, though I'm sure you object to the
rating of Captain America (2)
As for BP, I decided to not get it at this time. It doesn't look like
a must-own to me, and I already have a ton of RPGs I need to get to
before I'm 70. This includes all the Saturn/SNES/GEN/NES rpgs... and
that is a LOT of playing time. Honestly... maybe I'll never get to it
all. Makes me feel better saving $46. Also, I read random battles
occur too frequently from sega-16's review, and that's one thing I
dislike... overexcessive random battles. I know most JP RPGs are high
in that regard, and that their US ports are lessened (in random
battles) for the "American audience" (placing more of an emphasis on
talking to locales picking up information) >> Stay informed about: Beggar Prince run only 600 copies total, <100 left |

Sega-16 limits games to one review per title, which is unfortunate.
Even Ken has expressed some disappointment in the opinions expressed
and scores given to games, which is only natural when you allow only
one take on a given title. I suspect this policy is held to help the
site cover more titles, instead of becoming a dump such as GameFAQs
where the most popular titles receive hundreds of reviews while more
obscure titles are neglected.

I agree. I think there are a few games which have become grossly
outdated as genres have advanced, and RPGs are probably the hardest
hit. I can only imagine the most nostaglic minded player enjoying
Dragon Warrior in this day and age. Even Earthbound is tedious to play,
and I think the only reason it is so loved and accepted is its great
soundtrack and theme.

Yeah, that's something else...but to each his own. Like Benjamin
was saying though, it's hard when you can only allow for one review per
title. It makes it seems like the site, as a whole, endorses the
low-ass rating, where as it's just one guy who happens to be reviewing
the game for the site.
I'm all for multiple reviews per game, but again, like Benjamin said
you'd see 500 reviews for Sonic and 2 for something like Doom
Troopers(another good example of this is Sega-Saturn.com). I could see
limiting the reviews to a max of 3 to 5 per title. That way you kinda
get that review style where there's one main review, and then they have
three, or so, putting in their thoughts as well. As long as all of the
reviewers were, somewhat, limited in their word count, it wouldn't be
bad at all to actually put the time into to reading all three(or more)
reviews.

This is also true for pretty much every review of anything in any
medium. Yet people constantly say a review was given by a publication,
instead of by a reviewer. Editorials are generally the only things that
are meant to reflect a publication's opinion, and then that can only be
seen as really representing the staff when there's an open edit board.
And even then, most of a paper's staff is cut off from the edit board
either because they don't have time or don't care as there tends to be
an opinion staff that is disconnected from the rest of the paper but is
in charge of giving the paper's opinion.. >> Stay informed about: Beggar Prince run only 600 copies total, <100 left |
