Being a fan of the Katamari series from the PS2, I bought the 360
installment recently.

The game is OK - it does nothing new, and there's only one level which is
annoying. However when I was looking through the Achievements for the
game, I noticed that in order to even accomplish a large number of them,
you have to go and download a bunch of new levels that weren't included
with the game, which will cost you another $20 or so. What the heck?
So, the game was released incomplete, but for 1500 points, you can enjoy
the levels that SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE FIRST PLACE!

Do other games do this, or is this just Capcom's way of trying to screw
over the customer?

a) Don't you mean Namco Bandai?

b) Was there any sort of update from Live when you played the game?
Many games have updates that add new Achievements.

That's what the major complaint was when it first came out, that's
also the reason I didn't buy it.

Oops, yes. Namco Bandai.

I don't think this game had an update when I first played it.

As an example, there's an achievement for in the list for creating a
katamari that's over 1.5 million KM in size. According to gamefaqs and
other achievement sites, you have to download a separate level for 200
points in order to get this one. Other achievements, like "all presents"
"all Requests(stages)" and "all cousins" require that stage, plus 6 others,
that will cost you a total of 1500 points (about $18?) Checking the
marketplace, and sure enough, the levels appear (along with a bunch of other
stuff) and they all say I haven't downloaded them, so yes, it seems you have
to spend more money to just get the complete game in this case.

I haven't decided if I'm going to bother. I'll finish the levels they
"graciously" included on the disc first and see if I feel like essentially
buying the game again :p

I know other games, like Crackdown, have additional DLC for sale that
will, among other things, add achievements. However at least in
Crackdown's case, even without buying any additional DLC, you can complete
all achievements that are listed - which is definitely NOT the case with
Katamari.

I wonder what MS have to say about this? As I understood things each game
released on a DVD had to feature 1000 points that you could get with that
DVD. DLC could then add a further 250 points.

You should not have to purchase DLC to get the first 1000 points was my
understanding.

The game comes with 40 achievements worth 1250 points. 1000 of those are
indeed do-able without buying the DLC.

However, all 40 achievements appear from the moment you put the game in to
the drive.

The game comes with 13 levels, and there are an additional 7 for download.

(I wonder if they'll ever do a "Beautiful Katamari Complete" that comes
with all 20 once the price of the basic game drops even lower?)
