It's better than BF2.

Really? I'm enjoying it almost as much as BF1942 (not accounting for the
newness-factor). What is the most common complaint?
> Planetside.Does. It.So.Much.Better.
I didn't care for that one...too much downtime. BF2142 (with the sprint
upgrades) does a great job of balancing action with a sense of scale (i.e.
there is still plenty of walking to be done). IMO, YMMV. >> Stay informed about: Battlefield 2142: |

Depends what you mean by downtime. If the base that you're assaulting
is a "Hack and Hold" base then the 15 minute wait for the hack to go
through can be tedious if enemy doesn't try to contest it. Usually
though the defending Empire will quickly assault the base and try to
cancel the hack.
If the base is a LLU base then you only have to wait for as long as it
takes for somebody to get the LLU module to the designated control
centre of a friendly base.
Respawn time is about 10 seconds if there are no Core modules
installed at a base or if you've been killed frequently in a short
period of time.
Apart from that, action is never more that 3 minutes away on the HART
shuttle, or via Instant Action, which takes about 15 seconds to take
you to a contested tower or base.
The game really has come on a lot over the years. If you haven't
played it for a while, I'd highly recommend trying it again. You can
now play for free with limited but perfectly viable characters. Or you
can pay the small subscription fee and have access to the large range
of weapons, aircraft, ground attack vehicles or even a giant mech if
that's what takes your fancy.
As for scale, I can't see anyone beating a 133 v 133 v 133 per
continent battle with indoor, outdoor and subterranean environments
all being contested at once. The continents are huge too. It would
take a player a good 15 or 20 minutes to walk across even the smaller
ones.
Incidentally, if you take a look at Planestide, you will see that
BF2142 borrowed a great deal from the game. I think that is a great
compliment to Planetside..

BF2(PC) is my favorite despite the bugs. BF2142 is decent.

True. My favorite FPS shooter, ever, all time was Wolfenstein 3D. Good
old fashioned firearms and grenades, and 1942 just had that whole
alternate reality meets the history feel to it. Not saying futuristic
weapons can't be good. (Marathon, Quake, Duke 3D, Halo/Halo 2) but
hey....
Personally it feels like a user written mod,

Like one of those "Star Trek Voyager for existing engine" things I hear
about? Never got one of those, though the CounterStrike after market
mod for a FPS is legit awesome and still is in use a lot of places by a
lot of people.
I'm going to continue to suffer with it a while, but this
> game doesn't have any of the "WOW can't get enough!!" factor for me
It is hard when there are so many already out and so much competition.
Maybe the retro thing was what the series had going for it as opposed
to ones set in the present or near future like the Tom Clancy's series
or int he far future like Halo and Halo 2. >> Stay informed about: Battlefield 2142: |
