I only remember him from Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo, and I didn't think he
sounded like Barney.

Where do you think the bumbling Half-Life guard got his name from,
Barney Fife on the Andy Griffith Show (Mayberry RFD). Otis in Opposing
Force was named after the town drunk of Mayberry.
To get the importance of Don Knotts, you probably have to be at least 35.

I don't remember that. I'm not sure how the Barney nickname came to be
applied to the guards in HL1, I don't know if that came from the fans or
if it was what the Valve people called him unofficially. The guard in
opposing force was definitely called Otis though, I think he introduced
himself that way.

The name of the model for the security guard was "barney", So I guess
Valve had already nicknamed him that

Not many have put a smile on my face like he did. Even though I own a
bunch of Andy Griffith shows on DVD I am going to watch the 3 hour
"marathon" tonight on TV Land.
