Raven seems appealing since it makes companions more powerful, however
the usefulness of companions is questionable.
Due to the randomness of bards, a sign with more general benefits
would be best.
RAVEN still grants deception resistance, faster messengers, and best
of all a significant speed boost.
CANDLE boosts healing, which everyone needs.
CUP reduces the experience needed to level-up by 10%.
DRAGON, while it has no single universally useful effect, aids both
melee fighters (by reducing required weapon marks) and magic users (by
reducing required power points.)
UNICORN grants corruption resistance.

Not that I've had much success with bards, but I am very happy when it
rolls candle for the extra talent. Races with a free talent are
practically guaranteed to get the 7LB and be able to go for treasure
hunter. Faster healing does not hurt either.
