Archived from groups: alt>games>warcraft (more info?)

Years ago I was addicted to the first release of Warcraft.
Then Diablo took over. Now I'm bored with Diablo and want to go back to
Warcraft.
My question is what do I have to buy? Blizzard's website is
confusing as to what is the latest version. Also, is that fancy
keyboard something worth considering?

I took a look at their store, and you're right, it's pretty confusing.

If you want the latest followup to the original single-player warcraft
get "Warcraft: Reign of Chaos" which is listed down toward the bottom
of the list of warcraft store page. If you really played the very
first Warcraft game, you might want to get Warcraft 2 as well. That
game is very old now, but it was incredible fun. You can probably get
it off some bargin bin for $5 now.

Most of the more recent stuff listed on Blizzard's web page is
connected with "World of Warcraft" which is a completely different
game: online, massively multi-player, with a monthly subscription fee.

For 2-3 years i also did Diablo2. It was a great game from Blizzard.

But Blizzards newest version af Warcraft seems much better.

The old 3 previous versions of Warcraft, Warcraft 1, 2 and 3, was
realtime-strategy games, while WOW - World Of Warcraft, is a mixture of
first person shooter and D&D, a bit like diablo2.

Believe me, if u liked Diablo2 u will just love this one. Only, u will spend
a lifetime playing this game. There is so much to do Smile

Thanks for all of the responses. I bought WoW Friday night. This
game is going to take some time
to learn. I'm have difficulty getting used to controlling my character.
I miss the point-click method that
Diablo II has.
Do most folk just use the mouse, or keyboard/mouse combination?

You CAN set the controls for click-to-move. It's a bit buggy, though.

I use the keyboard as much as possible. Wish I could use it for looting
and resource nodes.

you can use click to move if you like, it's in the options
you want to use the keyboard really to move around, as you need to have the
mouse free to click buttons and select things
stick with it imo

the way i move is keyboard wasd keys
and use the mouse to aim/look around
or use keyboard only when i'm really busy (boss fights)

Keyboard/mouse. There are just too many skills and options that you
need to map to keys, to be able to play it efficiently with just a mouse.
Sure, you could mouse-click on icons on your toolbars every time you
want to use a skill or ability, but it's much faster to have most of the
key ones right under your fingertips on the keyboard, when the action
is fast and furious.
