Yeah, just when you thought you were rid of me, here I am, ready to
terrorize your TR experience.
So, what happened? Well, things got really interesting for a while,
and I was settling in to a long-term experience with Anniversary....
.....and then the screen goes black and I hear this two-tone alarm
emitting from my computer while it slows down to a crawl and the hard
drive activity light dims. Not a good thing.
So, I shut it off, then turn it back on. Same thing. So, I shut it
down again. Hard a hard time trying to get it to shut down, so I just
disconnect the power. Cool, right?
Wrong. I hook it back up and turn it on....and nothing happens. Not
a peep, no hum, no screen...nothing. I figure that it's probably the
power supply.
So, the following day, I take it in to my local repair and parts
dealer. At this point, I recieve the bad news: The motherboard
fried. I made a dying sound.
So, I spend a month and a half getting new parts to put a new computer
together. After trial and error (and lots of cussing and screaming "I
DIDN'T BUY THESE PARTS SO THAT THEY COULD BE PICKY ABOUT WHO THEY PLAY
WITH!!! I BOUGHT THEM TO DO THE JOB I ASSIGN TO THEM!!!"), I finally
get something up and running and start reloading some programs I had
lost, including the ol' TR:A.
So, here I am, better, stronger, faster (apologies to the Six Million
Dollar Man).
Say hello to "Charlie", my third iteration of computer.
>Hello.<
Start making peace with your makers. >> Stay informed about: I'm Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack...... |

He's a real screamer. AMD Athlon X2 Duo Core 6000+ 3.0 Ghz on an Asus
motherboard with SLI technology, and an nVidia 8600 GT with 512 Megs
of memory, plus 4 Gigs of 800 Mhz DDR2 Ram (recognizeable only to
3.5), all running on Win Vista Home Premium.
It rocks. >> Stay informed about: I'm Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack...... |

3.5GB recognisable? That's extremely good for the rest of the spec. When I
worked it out in Device Manager, when I had a 256MB 7600GT, I could have
only had a max of 3.2GB available. I just bought a 768MB 8800GTX (was going
to get an 8800GT until I saw this http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130449), so
heaven knows what I'd have available now. All elementary though, as I only
have 2GB RAM anyway!

X2 Dual Core 6000+. Apparently, I mistyped the name. My error.

Amen, in this case. I don't want to have to do this again for another
5 to 10 years.

Glad to see you got a computer going I'll ask one and offer one...
Which processor exactly did you get? An A64 X2 or a Core2 Duo ???
32 bit os can directly address only 4 gb ram. From that, a number of
overhead items like remap of video ram, file handles etc. are deducted,
leaving roughly 3 to 3.5 gb of ram for the user. 64 bit os can directly
address some terabytes of ram, so any motherboard today can be fully loaded
and all the ram will show.
My laptop has a Turion 64 x2 processor, but only Vista Home 32 bit OS. It
has 2 gigs ram now, but I'll add 2 gigs just to get another 1.5 gigs to use.
It's worth it to have all the ram available possible!
Congrats on the new rig!
