I finally installed the patches that were done by Vladesch (108, 109,
110 and 111 ) which fixed a lot of bugs in the game.
Thank you Vladesch for all the work you did.
There still seems to be one major bug unless I have got something set
up wrong which is not beyond the realms of possibility
When I have my workers on automated and it doesn't matter if I set the
options on start auto or start them by clicking on any of the
automating icons they insist on building forts any where there is a
resource they don't do it every time just seems to be random and not
always the same resource.
Anybody got any ideas or suggestions if so they would be appreciated

Thanks

If you build a fort on a resource and connect it to your cities, that
resource is being exploited even though there isn't a mine or a plantation
or whatever. Building forts on resources outside any city's fat cross can
make good sense, because then they are easier to defend. So it isn't a bug;
it's itentional. The downside is that building a fort takes a fairly long
time for the worker.

I believe this is a "feature" of the new game. In Civ 4, building a fort on
a resource provides access to that resource. So, unless the resource is
inside the city cross, building a fort is the best way to get access to it.
The theory is that a fort provides defense as well as the resource, while a
mine or farm or whatever provides the resource without the defense.

So, workers will always choose to build a fort on a resource if it is
outside of the city fat cross.

Thanks for the info and your time I was not aware that it gave access
to the resource
