I need some help defeating balor. I have Cernd, Jaheira, Nalia (mage) Imoen
(mage) and my fighters including Minsc. No matter what (dispell, miscast or
pierce) magic spell I cast it seems Balor is able to regenerate. What
strategies have you used that worked. Are their spells I should have picked up
from the underdark inn or somewhere else that would help? We have plenty of +3
weapons except we keep getting paralyzed.

Haven't done him for a while, but put as many buddies as you can up
front first, and keep them coming, they make a good distraction from
your party. Cernd and Jaheria have should have chaotic commands check
the description I think it may stop holds, use those on as many as you
can. Have a resist fear or two ready, and cast it before the battle and
maybe during the battle it it wears off. You could try Minsc berzerk I
think that immune to hold, but you will lose control of him and he may
attack you.
I belelve the Pierce spells can reduce his MR, and so will lower
resistance, you would want to hit him with that first then magic should
start hitting.
Have the ring of mercykilling?(+20% to set traps) or just try to see if
Imoen can set a trap, it might work, if she does set one it will damage
balor, yeah it's a cheap shot but, so what. |

All good suggestions, to which I add: Have Cernd and Jaheira summon Fire
Elementals and have Nalia and/or Imoen casting Mordekainen's Sword (if the
spell is available to them). You should have found a Ring of Free Action in
Spellhold; whichever character is wearing it is immune to paralysis. If
you've got any potions of free action, this is a good time to use them. But
basically, this is what you get for creating a party with no clerics: If you
had a cleric you'd be able to cast Free Action and Remove Paralysis. You'd
also be better equipped to handle the undead you'll face later in the game.
