I'd like to play the original Buldar's Gate 1 (with TOTSC expansion)
under tutu or easy tutu, but I understand playing this game with the
BG2 engine can incur too powerful a character class that may throw off
game balance. I don't like cakewalks. I'm currently playing BG2:TOB
and I'm finding the Watcher's Keep dungeon incredibly challenging. I
just don't want to deal with the negative transfer of going back to
BG1 (which I never played) and finding it too easy. Any mods out
there that I can use in conjunction with Tutu to simulate the original
BG1 gaming experience the way the game developers pretty much intended
it to be played? Thanks.

Er, all you have to do is use one of the original classes, and resist
the temptation to use the kits. Using an Archer or a Kensai does
indeed make BG1 a cakewalk, but if you use one of the BG1 classes
(Fighter/Paladin/Ranger/Thief/Cleric) it should be fine. In fact if
you use a Sorceror or a Monk, you're in for a real challenge, because
those classes were designed for characters starting BG2 at level 8 or
so, and are really really weak for most of BG1.

I didn't mention Mages above - some people think that the extra spell
available to specialist mages in the BG2 engine makes them too easy
also. Personally I always found keeping mages alive really difficult,
so it made no odds to me.

Thanks. I saw this post only after I already responded to you in the
other rpg newsgroup asking about the extra spell availability. Yeah,
mages are a bitch to keep alive so maybe this will help keep down the
frustration level.

Some people will self limit themselves to not using non bg1 items,
that's up to you.
If you play Tutu you will have kits available like inquisitor, cavilier
instead of just plain paladin, etc. you don't pick the kits it will be
just like playing in bg1 where kits weren't available, although the
inquisitors single disple or trusight per day don't seem too unbalancing.
You are still starting out at level 1 so you may only have 4-10 HP to
start with, and are very easy ti kill regardless of class.
There is a mod 'sword coast strategems' (SCS) (www.gibberlings3.net)
which will improve the AI of enemies, it doesn't give them abilities
that they didn't already have,(ie. cheating) it just makes them use it
more intelligently.

The bg2 engine will allow a higher XP cap, so you could exceed the 161K
cap, but that will probably only account for about 1 extra level anyway.

You could add some other mods, grey clan episode 1, (blackwyrmlair.net)
adds an entire quest with several difficult battles,(you may need to
cheese your way through them) they will also add a bunch ofXP to further
raise the total XP you get, although not sure if you will gain another
level in the end, by the time you start getting to the 160+K XP levels
you have a pretty good jump to the next level.
