Hi All
Just finally installed BF2142 (UK DVD version from PCworld) on a sempron
3300 with 7600GT graphics card, initially the game would not even register
because it said invalid CD key, it was the right one and after some
hunting around I discovered the fix for that to add an extra code to the
beginning with regedit. So after a waste of about 5 hours I got it
registered, but then the thing just kept crashing on me and bombing back
to XP desktop, so after even more wasted hours (latest drivers etc,
removing second sound card from PC, disabling VOIP, etc) I got it to run
in single player mode and well its great but...
I applied the 1.10 patch and then tried to log on to a server to play, but
it just refuses to log in saying I need the official version, something
about only allows unmodified clients to connect (well I have not done
anything except the CD key fix and applied the patch, wish they would post
MD5 or SHA512 checksums for the patch downloads so you could be sure it
was downloaded correctly)
I connect through a nat router and have not set up ports specified in the
manual yet for port forwarding (or DMZ) is that what my problem is?
Its a pain because the number of ports that need forwarding exceeds the
space allowed in the router config for forwarding... (bugger)
So are all the ports required for unsolicited requests because I had no
problem running BF1942 of BFV through this router in the past?
Wha'appen >> Stay informed about: BF2142 Crashes and Wrong version??? |

Did a fresh install of XP and BF2142 and it seems better now, must have
been a problem with previous install.
still needs admin level to run, running as limited user gives punk buster
errors.
Don't run this game on a PC you need to be "secure" then...
firewall still dropping packets though, maybe because I have voip turned
off?
Also terrible lag on the titans, perhaps thats the slowish PC? and running
at too high res? >> Stay informed about: BF2142 Crashes and Wrong version??? |

I doubt it's a router problem. I have had nothing but problems using torrent
file sharing because of my router, but Battlefield never had to do anything
special to work online with this router.
What is that CDkey fix, maybe that's the problem.

yes, it seems like it was the problem, my PC was unstable due to having a
very finnicky motherboard as to what ram it will run and possibly
something or other didnt install properly because of a system crash, so I
did fresh install of XP and BF2142 and its better now, though still need
to run as admin otherwise get punkbuster errors. >> Stay informed about: BF2142 Crashes and Wrong version??? |

Having to play under an admin account or an account with admin rights with
Punkbuster is normal. >> Stay informed about: BF2142 Crashes and Wrong version??? |

Hi, i'm new here, i'm Hellblazer and i can help you with your problem.
If you don't want to use your mic. Follow my instustions.
What you need to do is log on to BF as normal, in the top left had corner click on options:
Then click on audio:
Then disable voice over IP and you should be reet (no more crashing)
http://imageshack.us ( )
But
If u want to speak using a mic which will need VOIP enabled, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924867/en-us (Download) this update. >> Stay informed about: BF2142 Crashes and Wrong version??? |
