Received my new X1950 Crossfire card to link up to my X1950 XTX card. Fired
everything up, launched ArmA and...was disappointed. It appears to have made
no difference at all to the game. I have tried a trick wherby you rename the
..exe but I think this was just to fix an Nvidia SLI bug but you never know. I
was looking for some 40% increase in speed but I can only assume that the game
has greater issues and therefore must wait for the 1.05 patch. Oh, and yes I
have enabled Crossfire in CCC before anyone asks. Wink

Was it not running alright with the one 1950?
I haven't the full game yet but the demo runs fine with my single 1950.

I have it set to the default High setting. With the single XTX it runs okay
unless you enter a wood or forest packed with trees. Then it doesn't run very
well at all. Come to think of it I haven't tried the same thing since getting
the Crossfire card. I have to say so far I am unimpressed and was hoping to
get something for my £240.

I have installed FRAPS and done some testing in a forest on the northen part
of the island. With Crossfire on I get around 17-20 fps in the forest, looking
straight down this will increase to high 30s low 40s. Oddly if I then reduce
the view distance to 500 it hardly budges at all and if I whack it up to 10000
I lose around 5fps.

With Crossfire the values are almost identical. Perhaps a few fps less when
view distance is set to 10000.

Had a bit of a google, have you tried the different rendering modes, such as
scissors, supertiling etc see if that makes any difference.
Is it only ArmedA that doesn't improve?

You can't decide which one to use it seems, unless there is a way of unlocking
this. The Catalyst AI determines which is best. What I have found however is
by reducing the Post Processing from High to Low, I can now turn all the other
features to High and it runs faster than before even in the middle of a
forest. Not sure what else to try to be honest.

Sweet, well that stumps me; I thought you might have a older CPU that was
restricting things but that beast is one step shy of a Cray! What resolution
are you running the game at?

With that set up, I'll take it your PSU is up to it, I know the 1950 are
power hungry, god knows what 2 are like!
Maybe try switching the cards round.
Do you have the same bios for each card, think I read that helps somewhere .
Also do they appear in Device Manager OK, should be 4 entries.
Is it that little kind of 'ribbon link cable' you use? maybe thats faulty or
needs checked.

Only 1024 x 768. What I haven't tried is running a CPU monitor in the
background during play to see if the second core gets used at all. That might
go some way to explaining it as there are faster single core processors out
there of course.

Yeah, I have a Seasonic 700W that can power 4 PCI-E cards.

>Maybe try switching the cards round.

As far as I know the Master card has to be the first one in. I can only assume
that when I turn Crossfire on and the screen starts flickering for a few
moments that it actually is on. That and it pumps out wicked amounts of heat
from both cards exhausts.

>Do you have the same bios for each card, think I read that helps somewhere .

They are different makes. The master is HIS and the slave is Asus.

Yep.

No, its an eternal cable link.

Look at this thread, you may want to test different settings with this..
http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?act=S...=64;t=5

Haven't used it myself, don't have full game yet.

Second run through on Custom High. All settings on the left were set to High
except Post Proc. which was Low.

Test One: 24.0782
Test Two: 29.2254
Test Three: 38.2593
Test Four: 26.4667
Test Five: 29.5341

OFPMark: 2951.27

I ran run more run of this last one for the first two tests and with Task
Manager up in the background and then aborted. It does appear to tax both
cores but only at around 50% or so, so it doesn't appear to be CPU limited in
any way.
