That's what things were like 10 years ago.
Isn't it odd that with todays technology that hasn't changed?

Duh! Not having a good week. What I meant to say was I pay $40 for 1.5Mbps,
but have to pay about $79 for 8Mbps.
Sorry. Not having fun at the moment.
I usually get about 1.1Mbps - 1.2Mbps on this connection.

Oops ;-( I'm not sure but guess your right as 54mbps seems extremely
fast compared to todays telecommunication speeds

I can never understand there being such low limits on very high speed
connections as these limits will surely be met far quicker

I read the other day an article saying that the future of the internet
looks bleak and we mat indeed return to old dial up speeds as the
ISP's etc cannot cope with all the streamed video media demanded by
customers. I for one cannot watch a lot of Youtube for example
without it buffering frequently at certain times of the day ;-(

Yep, Virginmedia.

Indeed they are.

Used to be good, but now its throttled, and there is a possibility of having
our connection snooped on by a third party company (Phorm - there's a lot on
the net about it).
> Do you have any download limits with a cheap rate like that?
6 odd gig from 10:00 - 15:00 and 3 odd gig from 16:00 - 21:00. Once you
breach those limits, your connection is throttled back to 25% of original
for 5 hours. Can you imagine what that is like for the people on the 2meg
connection? I know this may still sound reasonable, but whe you consider
this is still being pushed as an 'unlimited service', you can see why some
customers may be a bit upset.

Isn't that on the lan side? The wan side is usually a lot lower. When I got
my 20Mbit cable connection, I had to get a new Cable modem and new router as
neither of them could do the speed.

This is a better test site for Australia
http://www.speedtest.net/
I get 5.4Mbps down and a miserable 108Kbps up.
$55, 12G limit per month
Connection is via a pay TV cable. I'm too far from an exchange for ADSL
I have a wireless connection when I travel (which is rare!) 2Mbps up. This
is a connection through the mobile (cell) towers. Very expensive ... don't
ask. Wherever there is a mobile (cell) phone signal, it works. The way of
the future?

Getting 102.8 down and 44,8 up using the test at
http://speedtest.cogeco.net/ I think my price is around $50 a month.
Worth it for me since I maintain several websites and fly on line
regularly.

Varies Iain depending on time of day. At present it's quite slow
(20:45) but late last night I got almost 7mbps on my speed test. It
retains this speed to early afternoon then drops due to demand

Indeed. One could download a DVD's worth in half an hour or so, but be
throttled before you get there. And Virgin are now talking about a 50meg
tier!

But unless you're next door to the exchange you won't be getting 8Mbps. What
