Okay.....I guess I'm not the only person stuck at this part right now.
Believe me this made the T-Rex seem easy...although I must say when I made
my earlier post I omitted to say i'd started the game in "Hard" mode...that
was an idiot thing to do and should only be done after completing it in Easy
and Medium modes first! I went back and re-started in "easy" and whilst the
puzzles are just as challenging (my favoutite parts) the baddies aren't as
hard to kill and I murdered the T-Rex in next to no time due to my practice
at it during my "Hard" training.
The centaurs though still evade me...I know "what" to do but keep running
out of medpacks before I complete it. Its all Rage Attack/Adrenalin Dodge
stuff again followed by some quick grapple work but I just dont seem to have
enough fingers to make it all pull together on a PC keyboard. I can imagine
on a Playstayion it would be a piece of cake. On a PC I need both mouse
buttons held down (intermittently), the shift key (again intermittently) and
the direction controls. As if that isn't hard enough and believe me you
gotta be very dextrous in the finger work you've also gotta concentrate on
the action and depress each key at EXACTLY the right time. (I even taped the
right mouse (target) button down with masking tape!!!).To make matters worse
there ARE bugs. Freezing the centaur at the wrong moment (bad luck I guess)
means you can't take his shield..so after a twenty minutes work just getting
hold of ONE of the shields you get your ass kicked by a damn game bug trying
to take the other! And no damn checkpoints when you need them! I really miss
the early TR Games when at least I could save when and where I wanted after
a difficult bit.
I've tried all of the available save games on the net right now to get me
past this point but they are all made using the press release (read hacked)
version of the game and are not compatible with the actual "real" version.
The game throws an error if you try to load the files. I await Stella's
magnificent TR site to provide a working save game file as I'm about to give
up on the damn Centaurs Sad

i don't even wanna think about it. i got to that point last night and
haven't cared less since.

that.

Same here...though I'm sure I will be back soon. I must admit, I hadn't
investigated exactly what I needed to do to get past them...I just knew it
was bloody hard!!

The only way I got by them was using a trainer. The one-shot kill
option worked great on them. No shield needed.

Oh well...I finally did it. Sussed out the dodge manouvre, and then realised
that you had to do something else after that too. The battle really is easy
once you know what is expected.

Now onto the City of Khamoon!

i don't like trainer and cheats, at least on the first go around of a
game, but i know how this is gonna turn out. i don't want this whole
game ruined because of one frustrating level. so......i might just go
find a trainer if i don't succeed by the time i'm pitching my keyboard
and mouse against a wall.

i REALLY hate when a single level makes a whole game miserable.

Experience has shown that there is more then just "one frustrating
level" in this game.

Okay guys I hope this helps. I defeated them in the end after realising just
where I was going wrong Sad and straight away went back and did it a second
time to make sure it wasn't a fluke! Okay, I've not seen some of this advice
in any of the internet walkthroughs so far so read it well and
persevere...its worth it. I still think this is a great game even though
each level seems to get progressively harder!

Beating the Centaurs....

SPOILER SPACE

SPOILER SPACE

SPOILER SPACE

I cracked the Centaurs last night. I had read all of the available
walkthroughs but it was actually my seven year old son who got me past this
part by discovering a valuable new technique!

The adrenalin dodge and headshot should be common place at this stage in the
game so I won't bother repeating it here, but extra tips are...

When the Centaurs stop to fire there "green ray attack" at Lara (which turns
her to stone) simply press the crouch (shift key) and the ray will go right
over her head! This is a REAL bonus trick that saves lots of time and
frustration. Also VERY important - make sure you have automatic toggle set
in combat mode. I didn't for ages and it its a real pain (!). Setting auto
toggle means you don't need to manually maintain target lock on the beasts
using the right mouse button. Lastly....despite all of the rumours of huge
bugs in this area of the game I actually only experienced it a few times.
Sometimes when you freeze the Centaur after a successful head shot it will
freeze in a position that doesn't allow you access to grapple the
shield...but this is rare. Once you have both shields off the centaurs stand
directly on top of one of them (the shield not the Centaur! lol) and blast
like hell - using the mouse to spin around and follow the beasts. When their
rage meter hits max instead of charging you they will now just send another
green ray attack your way. As soon as the rage meter maxes out hit "E" and
pick up the shield. The green ray reflects back and then do a quick weapons
change and blast away with the shotgun or high calibre pistols. I found
following two successful "freezes" of the centaurs (the shield reflects
their ray back at them at turns them to stone) they will explode and die.
It's very hard at first but after some persistence (it took me a few hours)
I got them. Soon after I got them again. It's just about learning the moves.
Anyway - best of luck! Believe me the game just gets harder and so do the
frustrations...it makes the original TR1 seem easy...but it is great fun and
probably the best release since the original...

Please stick with this level and you will be pleased you did!

It will give you a chance to practice the dodge more!! Wink

Were you not saving other games anyway? I never just rely on the autosave.

Ah...I had that problem too but there is a way around it! I have transferred
savegames between my laptop and PC but did have problems at first. Here's
how to get around the corrupt or missing autosave....

Create a NEW profile from within the game. Quit the game. Copy only your old
savegames (not the autosave or the profile info) into the new profile folder
you just created. Re-start the game....voila...you shud have all of your
saves back! Worked for me anyway after accidentally deleting the
autosave.....lol

i tried that before, actually, but it found none of them. I had
savegames for the start of every level.

thanks anyway, maybe it will work for someone else, so it's good to have
