Likewise, Northwest says its DC-9s are about 17% less fuel-efficient
than its A319s, which have essentially the same number of seats. Oliver
Wyman analysts calculate that United's 737-500s use 6.6 gal. of fuel per
seat per flying hour - compared to just 5.39 gal. for its A320s. Delta's
MD-80s use 6.25 gal. under this measure versus 5.25 for its 737-800s.

Hhi Gregory,

Was it announced in the U.S. that the F-117A Stealth fighter flew its
last mission today, mate?

Strike me pink, here's me of the mindset that it was the latest in
you-beaut, super-slinky, super-secret-technology, blah, blah...

I guess the JSF-35 and the Eurofighter have well and truly taken over
from it??

Do they both have Stealth technology incorporated?

How about the B2 Stealth bomber - is it already due for retirement?

Geezes......

Regards,
John Ward

Well what surprises me, John, is you can walk right up to a B-2 at the
Dayton Airforce museum. It's right on display!

Hey John.. haven't followed the Mil stuff much. I think the B2 will be
around for a while, and there's always new fighters on the drawing board
which will likely become more and more stealthy, IMHO that is.

The Joint Strike fighter hasn't been deployed yet, but the F-22 Raptors
have stealth technology and has air to air capabilities the F-117s
(despite their "F" designation) lacked.

I'll bet that all the classified stuff is gone. I'll even bet that they
stripped off the special paint and repainted the craft in a sufficiently
similar color with more mundane stuff.

Hi Mad Mike,

Strewth, I must have got my years all mixed up over the last 4 or 5
years, mate.

So, what bombers and fighters were/are used in the
Kuwait/Iraq-Iran-Afghanistan conflicts, so far????

Wasn't the B-2 used pretty recently??

I guess, even if you can walk right up to a B-2, which would be very
impressive, you get no clues as to anything secret that was involved......

Geeze, weren't those F-117As a really weird shape, mate! And we never
heard a darned thing down here in Aus' about them being even deployed
anywhere, or what they achieved, or anybloodything about them, until we hear
that they're being retired......!!

What do you reckon they'll go for at the wreckers yards" Will we be
seeing them in the hands of enthusiasts, in the future, in the same way we
see many of the WWI, and WWII, and Korean and Vietnamse conflicts' planes?

Personally, I don't think they're anywhere near as slick or personal or
rewarding as a Spitfire or Mustang. Smile))

Regards,
John Ward

The F-22 has excellent stealth capability, without the expensive and obsolete
technology used by the older Stealth fighters and bombers.

So why isn't Northwest dumping the Scarebus aircraft for 737s?

Hi Gregory,

No worries, mate - I actually meant to say the raptors in my post, so
I'll post to RobertVA as well...

How are you and Tweetie both adapting to the "new, great, circumstances"
mate? Serious question...

You mean Hugsthing and the NGC? Doing fine mate.. and we've
wrapped up another phase of the aircraft comm program at the shop.
Would like to post more but the customer wouldn't like that too much.
IMHO, the area north of IAD could be renamed "triple-seven alley"
and.... here comes Ted aGaiN. Lets not forget the ERJs and CRJs,
and how about those hotshots cutting onto a short 2mi final from a
left base almost directly overhead!! Smile)
