Pleasantview isn't crippled, it's just that it's difficult to get someone
abducted the *natural* way, especially if you're trying it seems. However,
making them stargaze in 30 minute blocks will keep the chance of them being
abducted at its lowest. The chance goes up with every cumulative hour they
spend using the most expensive telescope. Female sims will get abducted but
not pregnant BTW.
The best strategy is to
make sure your sims needs are high, except for fun
send them to the telescope as soon as it gets dark
make them spend the entire night there without a break
But even then the chances of abduction are still small - 5% by 6am, I think
is the number I've heard. It starts ridiculously low (considerably less
than 1%) and abductions in the first hour or two are as rare as hen's teeth.
If they have a break and restart, the chances of abduction are reset to the
level they are at the outset which is why your 30 minute blocks aren't
working. As for the cheat, I seem to remember I had trouble with it once.
Keep trying with it - sometimes it takes and sometimes it doesn't. But as
Mim says, the easiest thing it to just summon the buggers.
BTW don't move Pleasantview on masse somewhere else - quickest way to make
the whole neighbourhood completely unplayable.
Best wishes
