AOE 2 - Problem with Random Map

I'm using Windows 98 and whenever i start a random map game, after about 10
minutes or so all the comps im playing say things like "My villagers are
weak; no wonder you are superior," then they quit the game. I've had this
problem ever since i bought it about 5 years ago but have never bothered to
ask anyone. Also, sometimes, maybe 1 in 10 times the game does work but i
don't know why. If I reset all settings to default then it works.
Any ideas?

Ken,

Problem #1: This sounds like a well known bug (usually called "early
resignation" by the AI opponents). It was fixed about 5 years ago in The
Conquerors patch 1.0C available at the official Ensemble Studios site. Or
at least it used to be. I can't find it now (almost everything points to Age
of Empires III). But I've also seen the patch in the downloads section of
some other sites that review PC games.

Now if you don't have The Conquerors... the patch just for AOK may be this

Problem #2: I have no idea (I'm not sure what you mean by "game does not
work"). But the patch might help on it as well.
