What are your opinions for AI middleware like SimBionic and AI.Implant?
I'm thinking buying SimBionic for my FPS 3d game...

It depends what you are looking for.

SimBionic provides a sophisticated FSM and nothing else. You will have to
write your own pathfinding, your own behaviours...

AI Implant proposes AI tools integrated in the Maya environment. It offers
pathfinding capabilities but is not easy to integrate into the production
pipe of a video game.

For an FPS 3d game, I would definitely recommend RenderWare AI.
http://www.renderware.com/ai_features.asp
RenderWare AI provides:
- 3D efficient pathfinding
- high level perception
- many on-the-shelves behaviours (attack, wander, flee, hide, body guard...)
- fully automatic path data generation tools
In my opinion, it is all what you need for a FPS 3d game.

Regards.

Gilles.
