Archived from groups: alt>games>warcraft (more info?)

I was at the AH a couple days ago and saw something on which I wanted
to bid. It didn't have a buyout price so I had to just bid.
Immediately another bid came in and outbid me. I thought that was a
coincidence that somebody just happened to be looking at the item at
the same time as me. I bid again, and immediately another bid came in
again. I did this about 5 times. Finally, I figured somebody had
some auto-bid setup, and walked away.

Other times it seems when I put an item up for auction, it is bought
out immediately. Another coincidence.

Does anybody know of an AH auto-bid addon? It would be nice to be
able to 1) auto-bid on items I like/need that I see in the AH, and 2)
to auto-bid on items appearing in my absence that I have preset, and
not just hope for the luck of the draw each time I happen to be at AH.

Bronzebeard PVE:
Lehi - 60 Human Paladin
Bathsheba - 60 Human Rogue

Frostmane PVP:
Laban - 37 Troll Rogue
Korohor - 24 Undead Warlock

Happened to me too some time ago. After my 6th or 7th bid the bidding
stopped and I heard someone cry out near me: "alright, alright, I give
up. You can have that silly thing!" That definitely wasn't an addon.

Especially near the end of auctions some people tend to camp the
auctioneer and wait out the last minutes to make sure they get what
they want.

No. And I guess any such addon would be in violation of blizzards
terms of use.

But if you use the AH frequently you might be interested in the
auctioneer addon: http://www.auctioneer-addon.com
It keeps track of the average prices in the AH so you can check how
much things are worth while you're still in a dungeon.

No, I've been in a bidding war before and the bids just kept going back
and forth for *ages*. It just happens sometimes that the guy with the
higher bid is nearby when you outbid him - they see the outbid message
on the screen and head back to the AH to check the price, place their
next bid, you see the message, you check the price... etc.

Yes, that kinds of Addons would be quite nice. If someone knows of them,
please share Smile I'm often flamed by my guildmates as an AH Addict Smile)

Which can be counterproductive...if a bunch of bids come in on an item,
it's auction time will be extended. I've seen "Very Short" items go up to
"Medium" with a quick flurry of bids.

no... if its "short" it stays short....
@OP: such an Addon wouldnt work. U need a character in AH. Then u could
get such an addon, (automatic bid while ur character is in AH)

No, it doesn't. I've personally witnessed with my own eyes, a "Very Short"
item that a bunch of people were waiting to bid on until it nearly expired
go up to MEDIUM in the process. I was one of the people bidding, and I
watched it all happen in real time, doing constant refreshes of the auction
in order to place top bid. Once it hit medium, I went away for 60-90
minutes (don't remember exactly) and came back, but the price had gotten
higher than I was willing to spend. It was at "Short" when I came back.

Nope if a short auction gets too many bids it can "fall back" to medium.
Seen it happen. I don't know if any bid generally increases the time until
end of auction or only those during the end phase. But it can and does
happen.

I'm sure there is one. A couple months ago, there were a bunch (5+) of
runecloth bags all from the same seller on the AH that had a low
minimum bid (like 1 gold) with a high max bid (like 10 gold). So I
placed a bid on one of them. Within 15 seconds, I was outbid. Rebid
on it and again within 15 seconds outbid. Repeated again. So I
switched a different bag and bid on it - 15 seconds later I was outbid
again. Now I got suspicious. I did a WHO on the seller who was online
in a different zone. But looking around the AH there was a 5th level
fighter of the same guild not 10 feet from me. I now rebid on the
first bag (which was much higher priced than the other bags that were
still at 1 gold). Within 15 seconds I was outbid. This convinced me
that the low level figher was a bot of some sort running an autobid
program.

I believe there is no Very Short duration on AH, only Short then someone
wins.

Or an actual player who agreed to help start some bid wars for guildmates,
usually in exchange for a share of the profits.

Have you ever sat in the AH, with the AH window open and turned to the
"your bids" pane?

If someone outbids you, you get an audible effect and a "you have been
outbid on xxxxx" message. The item on the bid pane changes to show that
you are no longer the high bidder, and a bid button appears for you to
click if you wish to re-bid.

I was in there last night and exchanged a few bids with a guy. In all
seriousness, if your outbiddings were "within 15 seconds", not only was
the guy NOT running a bot, he wasn't even trying very hard. Me and this
guy last night outbid each other 3 or 4 times each, probably within the
space of 15 seconds TOTAL.

Cheers!
David...
