I am not missing the point. The point is, in EVERY generation, it is
the library of GAMES that end up being a reason why people buy
something. The content drives the medium and the devices to use the
medium in question. So, I asked, which movies are so necessary to have
that someone will first and foremost jump to BluRay format to watch
them, play extra to watch them, and then pay above and beyond regular
DVD prices for the film to buy it, either new or a movie they already
have? Now individuals are harping on and having a flamewar over high
def movie formats, of which most people in America aren't able to watch
now.

Ok, let's say it does play movies as a valued added plus. How much
more is that worth to people? If the prices of the system were
exactly the same, I could see it possibly being a tie breaker. BUT,
the libraries of games aren't going to be the same (well major ones
will likely be on both, except for first party stuff), and the PS3 is
costing several hundred dollars more than the 360.

Ok, I will get back to the question about new films. What exactly is
coming out that is going to drive people to want to see it in high def?
What movies are going to make people invest in a new TV set to watch,
and then spend money to own? What is going to make them want to pay a
premium price to own the movie on a disk, instead of doing Pay per view
of it at home?

Oh, and also here, how critical is this whole movie format thing in
people deciding which game system someone would buy? What percertage
of the market is going to make their decision on what game system to
buy based on the movie format it plays?

At this point, any movie that is at least 720P or higher resolution. I
don't know if you keep up with the audiophiles but most (me included)
are ready for hi-def movies. Any movies. We have been living with our
up-converters for years and while they do a good job, it isn't true
Hi-def TV.

And don't get me started on porn. As soon as the first porn company
releases a porn on Blu-ray, that's it. Game over. Blu-ray wins.

spur sales of Blu-Ray players, including the PS3, as opposed to HD-DVD
players.

There is probably no single movie which will sell hardware by itself.
It may be the thing that convinces people to buy but they are obviously
expecting to play other movies than that big title, whether it's Star
Wars or whatever.

Same thing with games. The system-sellers like Mario wouldn't have
moved hardware if the buyers weren't expecting to play other games on
the system.

Spoken like the typical fanboy. It will take years to decide the winner
on the next-gen DVD format war, a single movie won't do a thing. Both
formats will be niche market for quite some time as HDTV is a niche
market.

All the storage medium in the world means jack unless there is a large
enough library of games to play. And with the advent of digital
downloads, high storage disks for games is less important. Disks are
merely a means of transporting data.

If I'm not mistaken though, the other superheroes, Superman and Batman,
are exclusive to HD DVD. As much as I like the Spiderman movies, I find
that Batman Begins and Superman Returns really outdid the Spidermans so
far.

Superman Returns yes, Batman Begins no. We are talking about
franchises and while the 1st and most recent Superman movies have been
awesome, the same can not be said of the Batman franchise. There is
not one Batman movies that can be considered a great movie.

How many PS3 games do you think will be over 9gb? Seriously?

And if you do get a game thats over 9gb, why? FMV? Its possible to have
a really intricate game with tons of high resolution textures.. but
don't get your hopes up. Most PS2 and XBOX games are under 2gb.

The largest XBOX game I've seen to date is 'The Guy Game', think about
that.

I beg to differ. The original Batman was pretty good. Batman Begins was
excellent--much better than any of the prior Batman films or the Superman
films, although not up to the level of the recent Spider-Man/X-Men movies.

"You dumb Xbots"? And you are replying to me about that. So, if Final
Fantasy 13 will play on BluRay DVD players, why does one need a PS3?

In regards to both of these, you must NOT be referring to me, because I
do consider the Final Fantasy series one of GAMES in it. So, gee, I
must be a person who likes the 360 and XBox, has BIG problems with the
PS3, and considers Final Fantasy series to be GAMES. Shock and horror!
