I've been browsing through the boeing advertising lately and keep
reading that over 200 airports are capable of handling the 747 versus
about 3 airports for the big bus.

Which gives me an idea for a RTW flight Very Happy

Would anyone know where I could find a list of the 747 capable
airports, or even better, how I can search my FS scenery database for
airports with nice big runways ?

Thanks
Gary

No such thing as a capable 747 runway. It might be 747 capable with no pax
and very little fuel on board, but put a few hundred passengers on-board,
plus top the tanks up and it then becomes a non capable runway.

Then add in runway height above sea level, temperature, wind, etc and you
see how complex it becomes

One of the last Concord flights in the UK was out of Edinburgh in Scotland
the aircraft had very little fuel and not many passengers it was airborne
just over half way down the 2560m runway and climbed out very steeply (45
degrees). Had he been on a transatlantic flight with full fuel/pax there is
no way he could have done that.

The only reason Boeing are able to peddle this misleading propoganda is
because many of the international airports have yet to put in the jetways to
reach the upper decks. The field performance is not the problem.

You need to leave me a valid e-mail address. Anyway, I don't believe such a
list would be the list of the exact airports able handle 747 birds. A factor
like airport elevation also greatly impacts the required runway length.
